Ischemic stroke has been classified as a merely thrombotic disease, so the main goal of its treatment is the recanalization of the occluded vasculature. However, despite fast restoration of blood circulation, progressive stroke still develops in many patients, which has led to the concept of reperfusion injury.  The underlying mechanism is only partly known. Though, it is accepted now, tha...

The prevention of arterial thrombotic diseases has a high priority in developed countries. An inappropriate diet may be an important risk factor for thrombotic events. The daily intake of an anti-thrombotic diet may offer a convenient and effective way of prevention. The aim of the present study was to test tomato extracts for anti-thrombotic effects and to identify those varieties that have su...

INTRODUCTION Thrombotic microangiopathies constitute a heterogeneous group of diseases characterised by microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia and thrombocytopaenia associated with platelet aggregation in the microcirculation responsible for ischaemic manifestations. Classically, thrombotic microangiopathies are described as encompassing two main syndromes: thrombotic thrombocytopaenic purpura and...

background: anti-phospholipids syndrome (aps) is considered a non inflammatory auto-immune disease with a significant thrombophilic risk with varied clinical manifestations. the purpose of the current study was to investigate the frequency of thrombotic and non-thrombotic events in patients with aps. methods: in this retrospective study, 102 definite aps subjects were recruited (2007-2011) at a...

BACKGROUND We evaluated thrombotic and bleeding outcomes in patients with continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices (CF-LVADs), stratified by anticoagulation intensity. Previous studies of outpatients with CF-LVADs have suggested that target international normalized ratio (INR) values <2.5 (range, 2-3) may be used. However, recent studies reported an increase in pump thrombosis among CF-L...

Stent thrombosis is defined as thrombotic occlusion of a stent resulting in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, all thrombotic occlusions of stents might not result in ACS. The present case report describes silent, very late thrombotic occlusion of a drug-eluting stent that was confirmed from specimens removed by directional coronary atherectomy.

The malignancies are commonly associated with enhanced thrombotic vascular events. The thrombotic events are also increased in lung cancer subtypes. Even, the systemic mortal thrombotic disorders were reported in the literature. We report a case of a nonsmall-cell carcinoma patient who progressed with widespread thrombosis.

AIMS Current non-invasive diagnostics for acute myocardial infarction (MI) identify myocardial necrosis rather than the primary cause and therapeutic target-plaque disruption and resultant thrombosis. The aim of this study was to identify changes specific to plaque disruption and pathological thrombosis that are distinct from acute myocardial necrosis. METHODS AND RESULTS We quantified 1,032 ...

OBJECTIVE Oral estrogen therapy increases venous thromboembolism risk among postmenopausal women. Although recent data showed transdermal estrogens may be safe with respect to thrombotic risk, the impact of the route of estrogen administration and concomitant progestogens is not fully established. METHODS AND RESULTS We used data from the E3N French prospective cohort of women born between 19...
