Third ventricle meningiomas are rare, representing approximately 0.15% of all meningiomas. The majority of third ventricular meningiomas are located posteriorly in the pineal region. Less commonly, they arise in the anterior part of the third ventricle. We report the cases of two patients with large and giant meningiomas originating in the anterior part of the third ventricle.

Citation: GENC A, Kasapoglu B. Meningiomas of the Third Ventricle in Childhood. Neurosurg. 2016, 1:2. Intraventricular meningiomas are rare and relatively more often seen in children. Most often, these arise from the lateral ventricular walls. On the other hand, meningiomas of the third ventricle are extremely unusual and difficult to diagnose [1]. Those meningiomas arising in the third ventric...

Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare intracranial neoplasms, especially in the third ventricle. The most common site of presentation of these lesions is in the fourth ventricle in adults and lateral ventricles in children. We report a male child with a posterior third ventricular CPP who presented with the symptoms of increased intracranial pressure. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed hyd...

The pituitary gland is concerned with such diverse functions as growth, sexual activity, carbohydrate and water metabolism, physical energy and the character and distribution of hair. For its size it is a very eloquent structure and although not solely responsible for any of these activities, it has been described as the leader of the endocrine orchestra. Many of its disturbances of function ar...

The anteroventral third ventricle (AV3V) region plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of many forms of experimental hypertension. The present study sought to determine whether the integrity of this area was necessary for the development of stress-induced hypertension in the borderline hypertensive rat (BHR). Male BHRs were assigned to three groups at 8 weeks of age: 1) AV3V lesion, 2) sham ...

Figure 1. Axial MRI T2-weighted (A) and coronal FLAIR (B) sequences reveal a slightly hyperintense, well-defined hypothalamic/third ventricular tumor (arrows), with perilesional vasogenic edema (arrowheads). C: Axial MRI T1-weighted sequence reveals a predominantly isointense tumor (arrow). D: Gadolinium-enhanced sagittal MRI T1-weighted sequence reveals the tumor with uniform contrast enhancem...

Previously, we reported that low-dose leptin infusions into the fourth ventricle produced a small but significant increase in body fat. These data contrast with reports that injections of higher doses of leptin into the fourth ventricle inhibit food intake and weight gain. In this study, we tested whether exogenous leptin in the fourth ventricle opposed or contributed to weight loss caused by t...
