We present a novel method for low noise, high-speed, real-time spectroscopy to monitor molecular absorption spectra. The system is based on a rapidly swept, narrowband CW Fourier-domain mode-locked (FDML) laser source for spectral encoding in time and an optically time-multiplexed split-pulse data acquisition system for improved noise performance and sensitivity. An acquisition speed of ~100 kH...

The pressure dependence of the optical absorption spectrum in (NMe4)2TCNQ3 and Cs2TCNQ3 has been measured at room temperature in the spectral range from mid-infrared to visible. At the ambient pressure the optical energy gap is observed at around 0.5 and 0.3 eV in (NMe4)2TCNQ3 and Cs2TCNQ3, respectively. The energy gap in (NMe4)2TCNQ3 decreases by 0.05 eV with increasing pressure up to 2 GPa, f...

Cesium oligomers are formed on helium nanodroplets which are doped with one or a few Cs atoms. The monomer absorption of the first electronic p<--s transition upon laser excitation is probed. Spectra employing laser-induced fluorescence, beam depletion, and resonant photoionization are compared. In particular, mass-resolved photoionization allows us to specifically probe excitation induced proc...

The electronic and optical properties of monolayer and bilayer graphene are investigated to verify the effects of interlayer interactions and external magnetic field. Monolayer graphene exhibits linear bands in the low-energy region. Then the interlayer interactions in bilayers change these bands into two pairs of parabolic bands, where the lower pair is slightly overlapped and the occupied sta...

Mixed ligand transition metal complexes having general formula ML 2 .HL', where M = Cu(II) or Pd(II); L = deprotonated 1-nitroso-2-naphthol or 8-hydroxyquinoline; HL' = picolinic acid or quinaldinic acid have been synthesised and characterised on the basis of Infrared, electronic absorption spectral data, magnetic and conductance measurements. The above study reveals the octahedral geometry of ...

Absorption spectra (150-300 nm) of TiO2 and TiO2 modified with metal (Pt, Pd, and Au) nanoparticles were systematically measured using an attenuated total reflection-far ultraviolet spectrometer. The deposition of metal nanoparticles altered the spectral shape and intensity, indicating changes in the electronic states and photocatalytic activities of TiO2.

In this study, four arylazobenzylidene dyes (a-d) were synthesized with excellent yields in two steps using Knoevenagel condensation and azo-coupling reactions. Absorption spectra of these dyes with different substituents were investigated in organic solvents as a function of solvent polarity. The spectral features of synthesized arylazobenzylidene dyes were described according to azo-hydrazone...

We investigate the local electronic structure in aqueous NiCl2 electrolytes by Ni L edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The experimental findings are interpreted in conjunction with multiplet calculations of the electronic structure and the resulting spectral shape. In contrast to the situation in the solid, the electronic structure in the electrolyte reflects the absence of direct contact Ni-C...

Electronic structure heterogeneities are ubiquitous in two-dimensional graphene and profoundly impact the transport properties of this material. Here we show the mapping of discrete electronic domains within a single graphene sheet using scanning transmission X-ray microscopy in conjunction with ab initio density functional theory calculations. Scanning transmission X-ray microscopy imaging pro...

The electronic structure of a material plays an important role in its functionality for different applications which can be probed using synchrotron-based spectroscopy techniques. Here, various cobalt-based compounds, differing in crystal structure, ligands surrounding the central metal ion and morphology, have been studied by soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at the Co L-edge in order t...
