Chiral C3-symmetric trisoxazolines are highly efficient stereodirecting ligands in enantioselective Cu(II) Lewis acid catalysis which is based on the concept of a stereoelectronic hemilability of the divalent copper; in direct comparison with the analogous bisoxazoline systems they are more efficient in the enantioselective alpha-amination as well as the enantioselective Mannich reaction of pro...

Recently we described the Common REactivity PAttern (COREPA) technique to screen data sets of diverse structures for their ability to serve as ligands for steroid hormone receptors [1]. The approach identi®es and quanti®es similar global and local stereoelectronic characteristics associated with active ligands through a comparison of energeticallyreasonable conformer distributions for selected ...

An efficient synthesis of the C4-epi-lomaiviticin B core is reported. The synthesis features a diastereoselective anionic formal furan Diels-Alder reaction and a stereoselective oxidative enolate dimerization. During the investigation, subtle yet critical stereoelectronic effects imparted by the C4-stereocenter were observed.

The lock-and-key concept is discussed with respect to necessary extensions. Formation of supramolecular complexes depends not only, and often not even primarily on an optimal geometric fit between host and guest. Induced fit and allosteric interactions have long been known as important modifications. Different binding mechanisms, the medium used and pH effects can exert a major influence on the...

Hybrid-density functional theory (B3LYP/Def2-TZVPP) based method and NBOinterpretation were used to investigate the conformational behavior of 1,2-dihalodisilanes[halo=F (1), Cl (2), Br (3), I (4)]. The B3LYP/Def2-TZVPP results showed that the anticonformations of compounds 1-4 are more stable than their corresponding gaucheconformations. The stability of the anti conformation compared to the g...

The air stable NHC IPrBr is reported. A stereoelectronic study of IPrBr and its similarly stable relative IMesBr demonstrates metal complex specific changes in NHC donicity versus the ubiquitous IPr and IMes. Application to a Suzuki coupling and an iridium transfer hydrogenation gives superior outcomes using IPrBr and IMesBr.

StereoElectronic Control of Unidirectional Reductive Elimination (SECURE) is provided by the cyclophane substituent on iodine(III). Computational and experimental studies demonstrate that out of plane steric bulk strongly destabilizes the reductive elimination transition state, and leads to regiochemical control. This approach should be general for high valent main group and transition metal ions.

What happens when a C?H bond is forced to interact with unpaired pairs of electrons at positively charged metal? Such interactions can be considered as “contra-electrostatic” H-bonds, which combine the familiar orbital interaction pattern characteristic for covalent contribution conventional H-bonding an unusual contra-electrostatic component. While electrostatics strongly stabilizing component...
