Electron and nuclear spins associated with point defects in insulators are promising systems for solid-state quantum technology. The electron spin is usually used for readout and addressing, and nuclear spins are used as exquisite quantum bits and memory systems. With these systems, single-shot readout of single nuclear spins as well as entanglement, aided by the electron spin, have been shown....

In the present work, we have obtained the equation of state for neutron star matter considering the in uence of the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic spin state. We have also investigated the structure of neutron stars. According to our results, the spin asymmetry stiens the equation of state and leads to high mass for the neutron star.

The expectation values of a hermitean operator  in (2s+1) specific coherent states of a spin are known to determine the operator unambiguously. As shown here, (almost) any other (2s + 1) coherent states also provide a basis for selfadjoint operators. This is proven by considering the determinant of the Gram matrix associated with the coherent state projectors as a Hamiltonian of a fictitious c...

Coherent control of the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond’s triplet spin state has traditionally been accomplished with resonant ac magnetic fields. Here, we show that high-frequency stress resonant with the spin state splitting can also coherently control NV center spins. Because this mechanical drive is parity nonconserving, controlling spins with stress enables direct access to the mag...

The conventional unpolarized current injected into a quantum-coherent semiconductor ring attached to two non-magnetic external leads can be modulated from perfect conductor to perfect insulator limit via electrically tunable Rashba spin-orbit (SO) coupling, thereby avoiding the usage of any ferromagnetic elements or external magnetic fields. This requires that ballistic propagation of electrons...

Coherent transient excitation of the spin ground states in singly charged quantum dots creates optically coupled and decoupled states of the electron spin. We demonstrate selective excitation from the spin ground states to the trion state through phase sensitive control of the spin coherence via these three states, leading to partial rotations of the spin vector. This progress lays the ground w...

A quantum spin system can be modelled by an equivalent classical system, with an effective Hamiltonian obtained by integrating all non-zero frequency modes out of the path integral. The effective Hamiltonian H eff ({S i }) derived from the coherent-state integral is highly singular: the quasiprobability density exp(−βH eff), a Wigner function, imposes quantisation through derivatives of delta f...

Light-induced excited spin state trapping (LIESST) in Fe spin-crossover systems is a process that involves the switching of molecules from low (LS, S 1⁄4 0) to high spin (HS, S 1⁄4 2) states. The direct LS-to-HS conversion is forbidden by selection rules, and LIESST involves intermediate states such as MLCT or T. The intersystem crossing sequence results in an HS state, structurally trapped by ...

A bilayer system of two-dimensional electron gases in a perpendicular magnetic field exhibits rich phenomena. At total filling factor tot=1, as one increases the layer separation, the bilayer system goes from an interlayer-coherent exciton condensed state to an incoherent phase of, most likely, two decoupled compositefermion Fermi liquids. Many questions still remain as to the nature of the tra...

We report on optical detection of a single photostable Ce(3+) ion in an yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal and on its magneto-optical properties at room temperature. The spin quantum state of the emitting level of a single cerium ion in YAG can be initialized by a circularly polarized laser pulse. Coherent precession of the electron spin is read out by observing temporal behavior of circula...
