Background and purpose: Cyanide is a species of high toxicity that is found mostly in industrial effluents such as electroplating, metal mining, metallurgy and metal cleaning processes. Entrance of it to existing environment contains a hazardous to health. The purpose of this study was to compare efficiency of both sonochemical and sonochemical / hydrogen peroxide processes for cyanide rem...

A sonochemical process has been developed for the insertion of tin nanoparticles into mesoporous carbon, giving a product which was used as a building block for the anode of a rechargeable Li battery; the electrode could deliver a reversible capacity of 400 mAh gr(-1)(C + Sn) at 100% cycling efficiency, which is higher than that of graphite electrodes.

We report the sonochemical synthesis of copper(I) hydride (CuH) by the ultrasonic irradiation of a copper(II) aqueous solution. A reaction mechanism based on the reduction of copper(II) by the ultrasound-generated hydrogen atoms is discussed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a metal hydride has been synthesized through sonochemistry.

A facile, versatile, and one-pot sonochemical synthesis of polydopamine (PDA)-nanocapsules from dopamine is reported. The nanocapsules (227 ± 25 nm) can encapsulate hydrophobic substances while retaining the reactivity of PDA toward nucleophilic reactions, enabling facile surface modification for different applications. PDA nanocapsules are nontoxic to mammalian cells while Cu-containing PDA ca...

Sonochemical preparation of composite nanoparticles were performed in an aqueous solution. The reduction rates of metal ions and the size of the formed metal nanoparticles could be control by using various ultrasonic parameters. In addition, control of the nanostructure of these particles were succeeded.

We report a remarkably facile one-pot sonochemical approach to prepare protein microspheres whose shells are covalently decorated with a mannosyl derivative to target Escherichia coli (E. coli), while their cores are encapsulated with tetracycline. Conjugated microspheres induced the agglutination of E. coli and increased the anti-bacterial activity of the encapsulated tetracycline by five fold.

A convenient sonochemical method is described for the preparation of polystyrene functionalized graphenes starting from graphite flakes and a reactive monomer, styrene. Ultrasonic irradiation of graphite in styrene results in the mechanochemical exfoliation of graphite flakes to single-layer and few-layer graphene sheets combined with functionalization of the graphene with polystyrene chains. T...

Highly fluorescent, stable, water-soluble Ag nanoclusters have been successfully prepared via a convenient sonochemical approach using a simple polyelectrolyte, polymethylacrylic acid (PMAA), as a capping agent. The optical and fluorescence properties of the Ag nanoclusters can be easily controlled by varying the synthetic conditions, such as sonication time, stoichiometry of the carboxylate gr...

The acoustic emission from collapsing cavitation bubbles generated using ultrasound of 20 kHz and 515 kHz frequencies in water has been measured and correlated with sonoluminescence and hydroxyl radical production to yield further information on the frequency dependence of sonochemical reactions. A reasonable correlation was found, and the results suggest differences in the predominant types of...
