We study the electronic and optical properties of 39 small molecules containing transition metal atoms and 7 others related to quantum-dots for photovoltaics. We explore in particular the merits of the many-body GW formalism, as compared to the ΔSCF approach within density functional theory, in the description of the ionization energy and electronic affinity. Mean average errors of 0.2-0.3 eV w...

Today we are poised for a transition from the highly customized crafting of specific molecular targets by hand to the increasingly general and automated assembly of different types of molecules with the push of a button. Creating machines that are capable of making many different types of small molecules on demand, akin to that which has been achieved on the macroscale with 3D printers, is chal...

A series of unsymmetrical π-conjugated small molecules have been constructed from meso-alkyl substituted porphyrins as the central unit and 3-ethylrhodanine as the terminal group. Using PC71BM as an acceptor, and these small molecules as electron donors in solution-processed bulk-heterojunction solar cells, a high power conversion efficiency of 6.49% has been achieved.

This communication reports the use of Congo red to stain the nanofibers of self-assembled small molecules for assaying intracellular supramolecular hydrogels, which provides a convenient method to explore molecular self-assembly inside cells.

Molecular complexes of uranium are capable of activating a range of industrially and economically important small molecules such as CO, CO(2), and N(2); new and often unexpected reactions provide insight into an element that needs to be well-understood if future clean-energy solutions are to involve nuclear power.

We study the electronic and transport properties of artificial Au atomic chains on a NiAl(110) surface template using state-of-the-art first principles calculations. Au chains display remarkable one-dimensional electronic properties that can be tuned by the selective adsorption of small molecules: a single CO group is shown to modulate the electronic wave functions, acting as a "chemical scisso...

A small molecule called Sm4 can disrupt interactions involving a transcription factor called Sox18, while having little impact on other members of the SoxF family.

As an early adopter of plant chemical genetics to the study of endomembrane trafficking, we have observed the growth of small molecule approaches. Within the field, we often describe the strengths of the approach in a broad, generic manner, such as the ability to address redundancy and lethality. But, we are now in a much better position to evaluate the demonstrated value of the approach based ...
