Sarcoidosis has a wide variety of radiologic manifestations. However, lesions that mimic tumors are rare presentations of this systemic disorder. Differentiating sarcoid granulomas from malignancy is critical, as management and prognosis for these two entities are drastically different. Therefore, it is imperative to be cognizant of the various radiologic appearances of pseudotumoral renal sarc...

The aim of the study was to analyse a part of the sequence of the E5 gene of bovine papillomaviruses (BPV) associated with equine sarcoids in Polish horses. Samples of 40 skin lesions obtained from 29 horses were collected for molecular examination. The PCR amplicons of BPV DNA were detected in 38 specimens. After phylogenetic analysis 37 specimens were recognized as BPV-1 and one as BPV-2. Phy...

The cause(s) of sarcoidosis is unknown. Mycobacterium spp. are suspected in Europe and Propionibacterium spp. are suspected in Japan. The present international collaboration evaluated the possible etiological links between sarcoidosis and the suspected bacterial species. Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded sections of biopsy samples of lymph nodes, one from each of 108 patients with sarcoidosi...

Pulmonary sarcoid granulomas are characterised by their elective distribution along collecting lymphatics. However, relationships between granulomas and intralobular lymphatics or blood microvascularisation have not been investigated. Therefore, we undertook a specific analysis of blood capillaries and lymphatics supplying sarcoid granulomas to identify additional clues to understanding the pat...

Individuals with sarcoidosis were evaluated for preferential usage of T cells with the yb-positive (+) type of T cell antigen receptor. Compared with normal subjects (n = 19), the group with sarcoidosis had increased numbers of CD3+ a(3-negative (-) T cells in the blood (normal, 58±12 cells/ls; sarcoid, 192±45 cells/,Ml, P < 0.05) and in the epithelial lining fluid of the lung (normal, 78±14 ce...

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. Propionibacterium acnes is the only microorganism that has been isolated from sarcoid lesions. Many P. acnes have been detected in sarcoid lymph nodes using quantitative PCR and in sarcoid granulomas by in situ hybridization. P. acnes trigger factor protein causes a cellular immune response only in sarcoid patients and induces...

Sarcoid skin tumors are the most common nodular skin tumors in the horse. They are typically nonmetastatic but can be locally aggressive and ulcerated. They may account for up to 90% of equine dermatological neoplasms. Approximately 40% of affected horses have more than one lesion and up to 50% of horses may have recurring lesions after surgical excision. Two of six subtypes of bovine papilloma...

BACKGROUND Sarcoids are peculiar equine benign tumours. Their onset is associated with Bovine Papillomavirus type -1 or -2 (BPV-1/2) infection. Little is known about the molecular interplay between viral infection and neoplastic transformation. The data regarding papillomavirus infections in human species show the inactivation of a number of tumour suppressor genes as basic mechanism of transfo...

Chronic synovitis is a rare complication of sarcoidosis, virtually confined to the black population. Synovial histology may be nonspecific or show typical sarcoid granulomata. We report 2 cases of chronic sarcoid synovitis in Caucasians. Histology showed typical granulomata in one patient, whose distinctive arthroscopic appearance is discussed.

The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical, computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography (PET) findings of sarcoidosis, sarcoid reaction, and malignant lymph nodes (LNs) to the results of transbronchial LN aspiration and biopsy (TBNA).The TBNA results of mediastinal and hilar LNs of 152 patients in our hospital from July 2008 to March 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. Two...
