"Candidatus Erwinia dacicola" is a Gammaproteobacterium that forms a symbiotic association with the agricultural pest Bactrocera oleae Here, we present a 2.1-Mb draft hybrid genome assembly for "Ca. Erwinia dacicola" generated from single-cell and metagenomic data.
McPhail traps loaded with various attractant solutions (ammonium sulphate, Entomela 75%, Entomela 50%, Dacus bait 100, sexual pheromone of olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae) combined also with registered plant protection products (lambda-cyhalothrin, alpha-cypermethrin as well as dimethoate) were tested for their attractiveness which was indicated as captures of flies in McPhail traps during thr...
Brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) from insects midgut can be successfully used to study several membrane phenomena, including nutrient absorption, ions permeability and insecticides mode of action. Midgut BBMV, purified from Musca domestica whole larvae, were used for the functional characterization of leucine transport. The amino acid uptake was accelerated in the presence of sodium or pot...
The olive moth, Prays oleae, is one of the most common insects that damages olives in Mediterranean region. establishment ground cover within orchards has been promoted this region recent years to avoid erosion and soil degradation. Nevertheless, its role as a shelter for natural enemies pests controversial. In study, we have investigated effectiveness biological control P. oleae organic with (...
Wild population of the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae (Rossi.)) was adapted to the laboratory conditions feeding on both olive fruits and an artificial diet. Infested fruits were brought to the laboratory and emerged adults used as the initial generation of the laboratory colony. After eggs were laid into the fruits, they were dissected and first instars were transferred to an artificial die...
The olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae, is a major pest of trees in several areas the world. Testing novel preventive methods against B. oleae infestations paramount. use particle film eluding and avoiding oviposition one main strategies adopted by growers; however, choices are often limited to kaolin. Under field conditions, we tested efficacy compounds, including films, for their effectiveness...
The current study describes seven species that are new to the lichen mycota of South Korea. A taxonomic description of Arthonia excipienda, A. radiata, Arthothelium ruanum, Enterographa leucolyta, Fissurina elaiocarpa, Rinodina oleae, and Thelotrema porinaceum was given and supported by distribution, ecology, and illustrations. Each species was compared with a species showing close resemblance.
Bacteria of the genus Chryseobacterium have previously been identified as mutualists of plants and insects. Chryseobacterium strain CBo1 was cultured from the gut of the agricultural pest Bactrocera oleae and its whole genome sequenced. This genomic resource will aid investigations into the transition of microbes between plant and invertebrate hosts.
Bacteria of the genus Stenotrophomonas are ubiquitous in the environment and are increasingly associated with insects. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia SBo1 was cultured from the gut of Bactrocera oleae The draft genome sequence presented here will inform future investigations into the nature of the interaction between insects and their microbiota.
