The obstructive jaundice is a complex syndrome with both benign etiology (choledocholithiasis, hydatid cyst, chronic pancreatitis) and malignant (cancer of the pancreas, cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer) and it has a special place in biliopancreatic pathology, with up most importance due to changes in local and general status of the organism, difficult etiologic diagnostic problems for...
Biliary extraction baskets are a commonly used instrument for the removal of choledocholithiasis in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Impaction of the extraction basket is a recognized complication of ERCP, and is usually the result of discrepancy between the size of bile duct stone and the diameter of the distal bile duct. Whilst mechanical lithotriptors can be used to cru...
OBJECTIVES Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) combined with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has been widely used in the management of the acute biliopancreatic pathology. Nevertheless, controversy remains about the appropriate timing for retrograde cholangiopancreatography. METHODS A retrospective study was undertaken on a consecutive series of 117 patients with acute bil...
Wehere report on a novel approach to deliver a fully covered self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) into the bile duct during double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE)-assisted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) using the overtube as an “accessory” or working channel. An 87-year-old woman with a history of a Billroth II reconstruction many years previously and complex choledocholithiasis h...
Introduction: Unsolved choledocholithiasis by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a complicated condition to manage. The incorporation of robotic surgery, a choledochoscope, and a holmium laser as therapeutic tools is likely to increase surgery effectiveness. Our purpose is to present the first Latin American case report of the combined use of these tools to extract a large impact...
The recurrence rate of choledocholithiasis in the general population has been reported to exceed 10%. incidence cholelithiasis was be higher patients following gastrectomy than that population. Desulfovibrio fairfieldensis is a gram-negative, curved, motile, anaerobic bacillus. D. fairfieldensis has been isolated only from human specimens and is considered a normal resident of the human gastrointestinal tract. We report the second case of Desulfovibrio bacteremia associated with choledocholithiasis and review the other reported cases of D. fairfieldensis bacteremia.
