BACKGROUND Late-onset noninfectious pulmonary complications (LONIPCs), which occur more than 3 months after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), are major causes of morbidity and mortality after transplantation. Among LONIPCs, we occasionally treat patients with late-onset severe restrictive lung defect after HSCT; however, its clinical features have not been fully elucida...

Even more surprisingly, the functional changes are not accompanied by the expected histopathological abnormalities, such as inflammation, fibrosis or vascular changes. The finding of restrictive lung disease without readily visible microstructural abnormalities is unusual...

We describe a patient who developed progressive dyspnea, lung infiltrates, and restrictive lung disease in association with the antidepressant fluoxetine hydrochloride (Prozac). The pathologic findings were consistent with hypersensitivity pneumonitis. An associated pulmonary phospholipidosis was also noted.

Background: The vascular response to recurrent tissue hypoxia and reperfusion following red blood cell sickling causes acute chest syndrome and chronic lung disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of chronic lung lesions and possible risk factors in sickle cell patients in lagos, Nigeria. Methods: From July 2012 to April 2013, Pulmonary function test (PFT) and chest-x-ray...

BACKGROUND Although impaired lung function in general has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, past studies typically have not attempted to investigate separately the obstructive and restrictive components of respiratory impairment. To deal with this question further, data from a large (n = 176 997) cohort of male Swedish construction workers, for whom spirometry measurements ...

We conducted a 15-year retrospective cohort study to determine the prevalence of restrictive lung disease before allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), and to assess whether this was a risk factor for poor outcomes. A total of 2545 patients were eligible for the analysis. Restrictive lung disease was defined as a total lung capacity (TLC) < 80% of predicted normal. Chest x-rays an...

OBJECTIVES We sought to investigate the long-term survival of patients with obstructive, restrictive and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as defined by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). METHODS A prospective database was retrospectively analysed and cross-correlated with the UK strategic tracking service to evaluate survival after primary coronary ...

Background and aims   Low dose and long term exposure to inorganic, organic, irritant and allergic substances in workplaces can slowly and gradually cause chronic diseases such as chronic bronchitis ,asthma and pneumoconiosis. The purpose of this study is the exact determination of  lung diseases prevalence in Turquoise Miners and determination of associated factors in these diseases.   Metho...

Although restrictive lung disease is the predominant abnormality of pulmonary function in patients with thalassaemia major (TM), its aetiology and its association with pulmonary hypertension (PH) detected in some patients with TM remains unknown. We report a patient with TM, iron overload, frequent pulmonary infections, and progressive severe precapillary PH over the previous 5 years. A severe ...
