Although chemotherapy of tumours has scored successes, drug resistance remains the major cause of death of cancer patients. Initial treatment often leaves residual disease, from which the tumour regrows. Eventually, most tumours become resistant to all available chemotherapy. I call this pan-resistance to distinguish it from multi-drug resistance, usually describing resistance caused by upregul...

The status of resistance to three insecticides (permethrin, stirofos, and methoxychlor), relative to a laboratory-susceptible colony, was evaluated in field populations of house flies, Musca domestica L., collected from two beef cattle feedlots in southeastern Nebraska. Topical application and residual exposure to treated glass surfaces were suitable methods for determining the resistance statu...

introduction : activated protein c (apc) inactivates factor v by cleavage of its heavy chain at arg306, arg506, arg679, and lys994. mutational changes, which abolish apc cleavage sites, may predispose thrombosis by altering the inactivation process of factor v.  factor v leiden (arg506glu) has been demonstrated as a strong risk factor for thrombosis. in the current study, we have studied whethe...

The selection of insecticide resistance in malaria vectors has the potential to compromise any insecticide-based vector control programme. To ensure that the insecticides used for indoor residual spraying and insecticide-treated nets in Zambia remain effective and their choice is evidence based, insecticide resistance surveillance and monitoring are essential. This study assessed and compared t...

The bone marrow microenvironment facilitates the survival, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic cells. These cells are supported by fibroblast-like bone marrow stromal cells, osteoblasts, and osteoclasts which secrete soluble factors and extracellular matrix proteins that mediate these functions. This rich environment serves as a safe haven not only for normal and malignant hemat...

A high complete remission rate is currently achieved in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, many patients eventually relapse due to the persistence of low numbers of residual leukemic cells that are undetectable by conventional cytomorphologic criteria (minimal residual disease [MRD]). Using immunophenotypic multiparametric flow cytometry, we have investigated in sequential stu...

Data suggest that breast cancer growth is regulated by coordinated actions of the estrogen receptor (ER) and various growth factor receptor signaling pathways. In tumors with active growth factor receptor signaling (e.g., HER2 amplification), tamoxifen may lose its estrogen antagonist activity and may acquire more agonist-like activity, resulting in tumor growth stimulation. Because treatments ...

In this work, polymeric materials designed for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) were evaluated their intended application. Properties including viscosity, flow through porous media (resistance factor and residual resistance factor), heavy displacement (incremental recovery) assessed terpolymers of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulphonic acid (AMPS), acrylamide (AAm), acrylic (AAc). The same propertie...

Using a large sample of D s → φ μν decays collected by the FOCUS photoproduction experiment at Fermilab, we present new measurements of two semileptonic form factor ratios: rv and r2. We find rv = 1.549 ± 0.250 ± 0.145 and r2 = 0.713± 0.202± 0.266. These values are consistent with rv and r2 form factors measured for the process D → K∗0l+νl.
