Background: Despite several years of intensive investigation, relatively few studies have been made of children with lupus nephritis. The prognosis of children with lupus nephritis is poor for those with diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis and active interstitial inflammation. As newer treatment modalities become available for patients with severe lupus nephritis, it become increasingly im...

BACKGROUND Interpretation of troponin results in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and renal disease is confused by the fact that renal dysfunction increases troponin levels, regardless of myocardial necrosis. Although it has been demonstrated that end-stage renal disease is associated with elevated cardiac troponin T (cTnT) levels, it is not known whether this biomarker is altered b...

1. The apparent renal clearance of intravenously injected [14C]glycocholate and [3H]chenodeoxycholate-3-sulphate was estimated in 22 patients with cholestasis. The degree of protein binding of the isotopes in serum from these patients was determined. The effects of pharmacological agents, changes in urine flow rate and pH on renal clearance was studied. 2. The mean renal clearance of [14C]glyco...

In 15 children with advanced chronic renal failure, glomerular filtration rate was determined by different methods. Inulin clearance correlated well with the mean of creatinine and urea clearance, and also with 51-chromium edetic acid (EDTA) clearance measured over 24 hours. The absolute values of creatinine clearance and of 51Cr-EDTA clearance measured up to 8 hours were higher than inulin cle...

Background & Aim: Chemotherapy may induce mild to moderate glomerular or tubular disorders. We evaluated tubular and glomerular function in children who underwent chemotherapy. Patients and Methods: Between 2003 and 2005 all pediatric cancer patients were entered in a cross sectional prospective study. Demographic data, cumulative doses of anticancer drugs, history of antibiotics, nephrecto...

A physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling approach was used to assess the prediction accuracy of propofol hepatic and extrahepatic metabolic clearance and to address previously reported underprediction of in vivo clearance based on static in vitro–in vivo extrapolation methods. The predictive capacity of propofol intrinsic clearance data (CLint) obtained in human hepatocytes and l...

OBJECTIVE An augmented renal clearance has been described in some groups of critically ill patients, and it might induce sub-optimal concentrations of drugs eliminated by glomerular filtration, mainly antibiotics. Studies on its occurrence and determinants are lacking. Our goals were to determine the incidence and associated factors of augmented renal clearance and the effects on vancomycin con...

The kidneys are vital organs performing several essential functions. Their primary function is the filtration of blood and removal metabolic waste products as well fluid homeostasis. Renal main pathway for drug removal, highlighting importance this organ to growing field nanomedicine. (i) have a key role in transport clearance nanoparticles (NPs), (ii) exposed potential NPs’ toxicity, (iii) tar...

The plasma level and elimination of 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) was measured in normal subjects and patients with impaired renal function. Prolongation of the half-life of the drug in renal failure has been confirmed. Renal clearance of 5-FC was about 75% of the creatinine clearance and a corresponding modification of drug dosage should be made in patients with renal insufficiency.

Although epidemiological studies suggest that people with minor impairment of renal function are at higher risk of stroke and coronary heart disease, the mechanisms underlying this relation are unclear. One explanation may lie with observations that deterioration in renal function is accompanied by elevations in plasma homocysteine concentrations. There is evidence that moderate hyperhomocystei...
