We report a synthetic strategy for construction of the first example of organocatalytic covalent organic frameworks via pore surface engineering. The COF catalyst combines a number of striking features, including enhanced activity, broad applicability, good recyclability, and high capability, to perform catalytic transformation under continuous flow conditions.

Pre-synthesized ruthenium dioxide nanoparticulates (RuO(2) NPs) with low level of aggregation were well dispersed in mesoporous silica SBA-15. As a catalyst for water oxidation, the supported RuO(2) NPs exhibit excellent catalytic activity and recyclability. The initial turnover frequency (TOF) is to date the highest among comparable RuO(2) catalysts.

Thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters are explored for catalytic application in the selective oxidation of sulfide to sulfoxide by PhIO. The TiO(2)-supported Au(25)(SR)(18) nanocluster catalysts give rise to high catalytic activity (e.g.∼97% conv. of Ph-S-CH(3) and ∼92% selectivity for Ph-S(=O)-CH(3) sulfoxide) and show excellent recyclability in the sulfoxidation process.

We reported a universal route for synthesizing porous organic ligands (POLs) via solvothermal polymerization. The POLs were obtained quantitatively, showing high surface area, large pore volume, hierarchical porosity, and superior stability. The POL bearing a triphenylphosphine supported rhodium catalyst (Rh/POL-PPh3) exhibits high activity and excellent recyclability in 1-octene hydroformylation.

The 2-electron reduced form of the polyoxometalate silicotungstic acid (H4[SiW12O4]) is shown to be an effective and selective hydrogenation agent for a range of nitroarenes without the need for any co-catalyst. The ease of generation of the active species and its recyclability suggest that a new approach to this important class of chemical conversions is possible.

The repeatable wettability of the facile-to-fabricate porous copper surface shows superhydrophobicity in air and improved superhydrophobicity under oil. The resultant 3D copper foam can separate and capture oils from water with high separation efficiency, fast capture kinetics, fine mechanical resistance to water impact, and good recyclability.
