Excel 2007, like its predecessors, fails a standard set of intermediate-level accuracy tests in three areas: statistical distributions, random number generation, and estimation. Additional errors in specific Excel procedures are discussed.Microsoft’s continuing inability to correctly fix errors is discussed. No statistical procedure in Excel should be used until Microsoft documents that the pro...

Recall that a rng is a ring which is possibly non-unital. In this note, we address the problem whether every finitely generated idempotent rng (abbreviated as irng) is singly generated as an ideal. It is well-known that it is the case for a commutative irng. We prove here it is also the case for a free rng on finitely many idempotents and for a finite irng. A relation to the Wiegold problem for...

We recall some requirements for \good" random number generators and argue that while the construction of generators and the choice of their parameters must be based on theory, a posteriori empirical testing is also important. We then give examples of tests failed by some popular generators and examples of generators passing these tests.

In this paper we propose a new architecture Physical Random Functions (or Physical Unclonable Functions, PUFs) to create a candidate hardware random number generator. So far several random number generators based on ring oscillators were introduced but all of them have either security or stability problems. This paper presents a novel architecture which has solved both of these problems. This i...

In this paper we propose a new method for overcoming the problem of adjusting for the multiple testing problem in the context of testing random number generators. We suggest it is to be used in conjunction with an existing method. More generally, the method can be useful in other situations where the multiple testing issue is encountered and the tests involved are not independent of each other,...

Let U and V be independent random variables with continuous density function on the interval (0, 1). We describe families of functions g for which uniformity of U and V is equivalent to uniformity of g(U, V) on (0, 1). These results axe used to prescribe methods for improving the quality of pseudo-random number generators by making them closer in distribution to the U(0, 1) distribution.

Let I be a set and let A, f be functions. The functor f↾IA yielding a many sorted function indexed by I is defined by: (Def. 1) For every set i such that i ∈ I holds (f↾IA)(i) = f↾A(i). One can prove the following propositions: (1) For every set I and for every many sorted set A indexed by I holds idUnionA↾IA = idA. (2) Let I be a set, A, B be many sorted sets indexed by I, and f , g be functio...
