Two patients with left middle cerebral artery (MCA) distribution infarctions fulfilled the "hot stroke" criteria on sequential 99m Tc pertechnetate flow and static gamma camera studies. The radioisotopic finding of a paradoxical relative increased flow to the affected hemisphere correlated with serial angiography showing multiple MCA branch occlusions becoming patent with a vascular blush and e...

Inherent in the application of advances in biomedical science to nuclear medicine is the concept of molecular targeting: the in vivo concentration of labeled tracer by a gene, its transcribed DNA, or its protein product. This mechanism of localization has been and is being exploited for both nuclear imaging and radioisotopic therapy. Agents, such as antisense molecules, aptamers, antibodies, an...

Forty-eight patients who had undergone surgical reduction of a fractured neck of femur or in whom deep vein thrombosis was suspected clinically were studied by ascending phlebography and imaging after injection of autologous indium-111-labelled platelets to assess the accuracy and value of the radioisotopic technique in diagnosing deep vein thrombosis. Imaging was performed with a wide-field ga...

Apical lesions of the left ventricle, ranging from endocardial thickening to aneurysms, are commonly found in Chagas' heart disease. These abnormalities can be identified by ventriculography, two-dimensional echocardiography and radioisotopic studies. Generally, clinical manifestations are limited to arrhythmias and thromboembolic. The lesions are usually small and apparently do not play a role...

Consideration is given to the role of a population of muscle fibers of distributed diameters in the observed washout of a tracer, with particular reference to radioisotopic K and muscle fibers. It is concluded that if washout of tracer from a single fiber is described as first order, then washout of tracer from a population of fibers is apt to appear as first order.
