This article is devoted to the study of the convergence rate of stochastic algorithms using Chen’s procedure throughout a functional Central Limit Theorem. We establish the convergence in the Skorokhod space of a well defined interpolation of the renormalised iterates to a stationary Ornstein Uhlenbeck process. This new result enables us to derive a CLT for the moving window averaging version o...

We present a set of problem frames specialized to the area of geographic applications. Problem frames describe the elements of common problems, and help a specifier understand and decompose a complex problem into simpler subproblems for which a solution is often known. We provide an overview of the main issues in geographic applications, and present twelve frames that address many of the proble...

The present article argues for what is essentially a return to the functionalist approach to investigation of memory. Two experiments demonstrate that the effects of level of processing depend on scaled meaningfulness of the material and study time. Data from those experiments along with data currently in the literature are then reanalyzed to examine the effect of repetitions. Of particular int...

This paper introduces a new approach of patent translation. The basic technology is functional language model proposed by the same authors. Using a long claim sentence that applied to America and China of Japanese patent originally, the translation process is demonstrated. Through this process, special linguistic issues in each language are clarified in translation of patents.

A modified Gross-Pitaevskii approximation was introduced recently for bosons in dimension d ≤ 2 by Kolomeisky et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1146 (2000)). We reproduce, using the density functional approach, the stationaryframe results of Kolomeisky et al. for a repulsive interaction. We also find a new soliton solution for an attractive interaction, which may be boosted to a finite velocity by a ...

A modified Gross-Pitaevskii approximation was introduced recently for bosons in dimension d ≤ 2 by Kolomeisky et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1146 (2000)). We use the density functional approach with sixth-degree interaction energy term in the Bose field to reproduce the stationary-frame results of Kolomeisky et al. for a one-dimensional Bose-Einstein system with a repulsive interaction. We also fi...

although control charts are very common to monitoring process changes, they usually do not indicate the real time of the changes. identifying the real time of the process changes is known as change-point estimation problem. there are a number of change point models in the literature however most of the existing approaches are dedicated to normal processes. in this paper we propose a novel appro...

We consider the problem of navigating a mobile robot through dense human crowds. We begin by exploring a fundamental impediment to classical motion planning algorithms called the ‘‘freezing robot problem’’: once the environment surpasses a certain level of dynamic complexity, the planner decides that all forward paths are unsafe, and the robot freezes in place (or performs unnecessary maneuvers...

We show existence and uniqueness of a stationary state for a kinetic Fokker-Planck equation modeling the fibre lay-down process in the production of non-woven textiles. Following a micromacro decomposition, we use hypocoercivity techniques to show exponential convergence to equilibrium with an explicit rate assuming the conveyor belt moves slow enough. This work is an extention of [2], where th...
