Enstrophy is an averagedmeasure of fluid vorticity. This quantity is particularly important in rotating geophysical flows. We investigate the dynamical evolution of enstrophy for large-scale quasi-geostrophic flows under random wind forcing. We obtain upper bounds on the enstrophy, as well as results establishing its Hölder continuity and describing the small-time asymptotics.
A quasi-one-dimensional numerical mode1 containing a prognostic turbulent kinetic energy parameterization and simplified approximations to horizontal gradients is used to study interactions of thermally induced nocturnal slope flows with following and opposing ambient winds. It is found that a following ambient wind causes the peak perturbation wind to be weaker and to be realized at a greater ...
As we are transitioning to an energy system based on renewable sources, the atmosphere is becoming one of our primary sources. Understanding atmospheric flows through wind farms has become issue large economic and societal concern.
This paper presents voltage stability in an electrical network when connected by wind generators. Due to several advantages wind energy is the growing renewable energy. Nowadays, wind energy is penetrating into the conventional power network. Due to random variations in wind speed, the output power and terminal voltage fluctuates continuously. The influence of wind generators on the power quali...
Climate networks have proven to be a valuable method to investigate spatial connectivity patterns of the climate system. However, so far such networks have mostly been applied to scalar observables. In this study, we propose a new method for constructing networks from atmospheric wind fields on two-dimensional isobaric surfaces. By connecting nodes along a spatial environment based on the local...
Abstract The purpose of this research is to design and identify some of the natures and characteristics of high-resolution surface currents in the Northern Indian Ocean. The pattern of 3D circulation of the Wind-driven surface currents, Sea surface temperature (SST) and Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) distribution in the Northern Indian Ocean using The MIT general circulation model (MITgcm) with ho...
Sand dunes are one of the most important and sensitive wind erosion susceptible landforms whose activity varies depending on the severity of the impact of various climatic and terrestrial factors. Long-term monitoring of these factors, along with the mobility status of sand sands in different areas, can have a significant effect on reducing their adverse effects. One of the sensitive areas of w...
Wind tunnel testing using reduced scale topography models is a mature technique [1] that enables the investigation of various aspects of wind flows from pollutant dispersion [2] to wind field modifications [3] affected by terrain. Alternatively, or in conjunction with a wind tunnel study, a rigorously developed computational technique would have the potential to provide additional and useful in...
A sub-relativistic, thermal wind-type flow could represent the physical connection between the central engine and other observed components of the central region, such as the Broad Line Region (BLR) and X-ray/UV absorbers. Observational clues as to the existence of such outflows in radio-quiet Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) are provided, for instance, by blue shifted absorption lines in Seyferts...
Empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) have been determined for three wind data sets from stations in valleys south of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Two of the data sets were for summer months, with individual days selected from the MesoWest archive to represent conditions conducive to welldeveloped thermally driven flows. The remaining data set was for the month of October 2000 and was derived f...
