Human progesterone receptor (PR) contains a motif that interacts with the SH3 domain of Src and mediates rapid activation of Src and downstream MAPK (Erk-1/-2) without relying on the transcriptional activity of the receptor. Here we investigated the role and intracellular location of this nontranscriptional activity of PR. Progestin activation of Src/MAPK occurred outside the nucleus with the B...

We measured time-resolved spectra and emission decay times under pulsed X-ray and synchrotron excitation in alkali-earth fluorides doped with Pr ions. Two fast decay components were found in the emission spectra of BaF2-Pr 3+ and SrF2-Pr 3+ . These were 4 ns and 21 ns in BaF2-Pr 3+ and 8 and 24 ns in SrF2-Pr . The intensity of the faster components 4 ns and 8 ns depended on concentration of Pr....

Results: 91/267 cases (34%) displayed MYC PR mutations. The mutation frequency (MF) was significantly higher in molecular BL (mBL) identified by GE than in nonmolecular BL (non-mBL) (0,63% vs. 0,18%, p<0,0001). Interestingly 27 non-mBL lacking MYC translocations carried MYC PR mutations indicating aberrant somatic hypermutation. MYC TAD mutations were present in 62/267 cases (23%) including 36/...

In Arabidopsis, NPR1 mediates the salicylic acid (SA)-induced expression of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes and systemic acquired resistance (SAR). Here, we report the identification of another component, CPR 6, that may function with NPR1 in regulating PR gene expression. The dominant CPR 6-1 mutant expresses the SA/NPR1-regulated PR genes (PR-1, BGL 2, and PR-5) and displays enhanced resistan...

An association between hormones and meningioma has been postulated. No data exist that examine gene expression in meningioma by hormone receptor status. The data are surgical specimens from 31 meningioma patients undergoing neurosurgical resection at Brigham and Women's Hospital from March 15, 2004 to May 10, 2005. Progesterone and estrogen hormone receptors (PR and ER, respectively) were measu...

The two, nearly identical, isoforms of human progesterone receptors (PR), PR-B and -A, share activation functions (AF) 1 and 2, yet they possess markedly different transcriptional profiles, with PR-B being much stronger transactivators. Their differences map to a unique AF3 in the B-upstream segment (BUS), at the far N terminus of PR-B, which is missing in PR-A. Combined mutation of two LXXLL m...

A family of soluble, reduced iron-sulfur clusters with nuclearities 4, 8, and 16 having tertiary phosphine ligation and based on the Fe(4)S(4) cubane-type structural motif has been synthesized. The results of this investigation substantially extend and improve the results of our original work on iron-sulfur-phosphine clusters (Goh, C.; Segal, B. M.; Huang, J.; Long, J. R.; Holm, R. H. J. Am. Ch...

Increased expression of progesterone receptor (PR) has been reported in gastric cancer (GC). We have previously identified a functional T889C point mutation in DNA polymerase beta (POLB), a DNA repair gene in GC. To provide a detailed analysis of molecular changes associated with the mutation, human cDNA microarrays focusing on 18 signal transduction pathways were used to analyze differential g...

Proteorhodopsin (PR) is a retinal-binding bacterial integral membrane protein that functions as a light-driven proton pump. The gene encoding this photoprotein was originally discovered on a large genome fragment derived from an uncultured marine gamma-proteobacterium of the SAR86 group. Subsequently, many variants of the PR gene have been detected in marine plankton, via PCR-based gene surveys...

Background: IL-10 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine which is involved in tumorigenesis. Over production of IL-10 and elevated number of IL-10 generating mononuclear cells in breast tumor tissue has already been shown. Objective: To determine the association of IL-10 promoter polymorphisms with increased risk of breast cancer and its association with breast cancer prognostic factors. Methods: Per...
