Anomalous heat absorption was observed in a closed Pd|D2O electrolysis system by Calvet calorimetry. The average excess power was – 14.6 mW over 105 hours period, which corresponds to a volume excess power of – 10.3 W/cm Pd and heat absorption of 3.81 MJ/cm Pd or 350 eV/atom Pd.

PURPOSE Absorption of irrigation fluid was not detected during GreenLight™ laser vaporization of the prostate using the first generation 80 W laser. However, data are lacking on intraoperative irrigation fluid absorption using the second generation 120 W high power laser. We assessed whether fluid absorption occurs during high power laser vaporization of the prostate. MATERIALS AND METHODS We...

We use an ultra-fast near-infrared pulse coincidence technique to study the time, temperature, and power dependence of the photoresponse of a bi-metal contacted graphene photodetector. We observe two components of the photovoltage signal. One component is gate-voltage dependent, linear in power at room temperature and sub-linear at low temperature-consistent with the hot-electron photothermoele...

To evaluate the electromagnetic power absorption in near field, the magnetic composites with the conductive grids were simulated using the typical permeability frequency profiles. The transmission power absorptions of the magnetic composites on microstrip line were extracted by the 3D FEM simulation program of HFSS. The magnitudes of power absorptions were greatly enhanced up to 98% and broaden...

The interaction of petawatt (10(15) W) lasers with solid matter forms the basis for advanced scientific applications such as table-top particle accelerators, ultrafast imaging systems and laser fusion. Key metrics for these applications relate to absorption, yet conditions in this regime are so nonlinear that it is often impossible to know the fraction of absorbed light f, and even the range of...

Two sets of hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon thin-film samples were prepared by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) technique at different deposition conditions of excited power and pressure. The correlation between the crystalline volume fraction for the samples determined from Raman spectra and the excited power, pressure, absorption coefficient, refractive index and optica...

High speed, high efficiency, low noise and high saturation power are the characteristics desired for detectors in high bit-rate long-haul optical communication systems. We present modeling and initial experimental results on Traveling-wave Amplification Photodetectors (TAP detectors). These novel monolithic devices combine optical gain and absorption in a traveling-wave structure, providing hig...
