Polyacrylonitrile and its TiO2 composites were electrospun into nanofibers in N, N’-dimethylformamide for photocatalysis antifouling experiments. The resultants characterized using field emission scanning microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy contact angle analyses. confirmed the formation of polyacrylonitrile-TiO2 composite with thei...

We investigate the transition from unbanded to banded spherulitic growth in mixtures of ethylene carbonate with polyacrylonitrile. By carefully considering systematic errors, we show that the band spacing diverges with a power-law form showing scaling over nearly two decades. We also observe that the bands disorder as the transition point is approached. The critical exponent is nonclassical. On...

Nitrogen-enriched porous carbon materials made via the carbonization of polyacrylonitrile containing block copolymer act as efficient and highly selective CO(2) sorbents. Nitrogen content and surface area, which are both influenced by pyrolysis temperature and atmosphere, are crucial for CO(2) adsorption performance.

Highly porous N-doped activated carbon monoliths (ACMs) are fabricated by carbonization and physical activation of mesoporous polyacrylonitrile (PAN) monoliths in the presence of CO(2). The monoliths exhibit exceptionally high CO(2) uptake; 5.14 mmol g(-1) at ambient pressure and temperature and 11.51 mmol g(-1) at ambient pressure and 273 K.

Wheat straw-g-polyacrylonitrile (PAN), containing 40% PAN, was saponified with sodium hydroxide and isolated under three sets ofsaponification and work-up conditions. Each reaction mixture was separated into a water-soluble and a water-insoluble fraction, which were individually analyzed for percentages (by weight) of synthetic polymer (saponified PAN), cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Wat...

polyacrylonitrile (pan) membranes with nano-porous surface and high hydrophilicity were fabricated by addition of polyoxyethylene (40) nonylphenyl ether (igepal) as an additive in the casting solution. the membranes were prepared from pan/igepal/1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (nmp) via phase inversion induced by immersion precipitation technique. pure water was used as coagulation medium. the effects o...
