This case study on a series of monomeric, dimeric and polymeric Cu(I) chlorido NHC-picolyl complexes shows that cuprophilic interactions can ensure strong spin-orbit coupling for fast (reverse)intersystem-crossing T1 ↔ S1 and T1 → S0, and therefore can serve as a design motif for the construction of highly efficient Cu(I)-based TADF or T1 emitters.
Carbon dots show potential in lighting and displays. However, only their fluorescence has been observed so far. Here we report the observation of phosphorescence from carbon dots in a polyvinyl alcohol matrix. The phosphorescence is attributed to C=O bonds on the surface of carbon dots and has a very long lifetime (~380 ms).
A series of platinum-acetylide copolymers with thiophene, selenophene, and tellurophene have been synthesized and studied. Photoluminescence experiments show that polymers undergo intersystem crossing to triplet states, leading to phosphorescence. The observed phosphorescence decreases in intensity moving down the group. DFT calculations are used to further understand the optical properties.
We present the progress made in developing a molecular tagging thermometry (MTT) technique for achieving spatially and temporally resolved temperature measurements within a small water droplet over a solid surface. For MTT measurement, a pulsed laser is used to tag phosphorescent 1-BrNp.Mbeta-CD.ROH molecules premixed with water. Long-lived laser-induced phosphorescence is imaged at two success...

F ray, M ay 5, 2017 RESULTS: Laser Doppler flowmetry confirmed a reactive hyperemia following tourniquet release. In addition, both the phosphorescence lifetime biosensor and NIR methods suggested that the tissue O 2 content temporarily but significantly exceeded baseline following tourniquet release (p<0.05). We term this phenomenon reactive hyperoxia. This suggests that the O 2 supply transie...
Experimental studies have shown that the nonpolar molecule 4,4'-diamino-stilbene (DAS) in polyvinyl alcohol) film (PVA) at 296 K, apart from fluorescence displays phosphorescence whose intensity differs only slightly from that observed at 84 K. The overlapping of fluorescence and phosphorescence bands is the reason of the unusual behaviour of the emission anisotropy in the longwave absorption a...
A study of triplet-triplet exciton annihilation and nonradiative decay in films of iridium(III)-centered phosphorescent dendrimers is reported. The average separation of the chromophore was tuned by the molecular structure and also by blending with a host material. It was found that triplet exciton hopping is controlled by electron exchange interactions and can be over 600 times faster than pho...
Excitement in the area of plasmonics stems from the ability to detect processes that are otherwise undetectable. Collective electron oscillations at metal surfaces experience strong spatial localization, which results in extremely intense and localized electromagnetic fields. This phenomenon is at the heart of all surface-enhanced spectroscopic processes. The intense local field can relax sever...
The effect of pH on the relative distribution of pyridoxal structures in aqueous solution was examined by fluorescence spectroscopy. The hemiacetal structure, which is the predominant species at neutral pH, exhibits a symmetrical emission band at 378 rnp and is characterized by a quantum yield of 0.08. Luminescence studies at low temperature (77” K) have permitted the analysis of the phosphores...
