A 64-year-old woman newly diagnosed with IgG-λ type multiple myeloma was admitted for induction therapy. At the time of admission, she presented with petechial hemorrhage of the skin despite having no abnormalities in her coagulation or platelet function test results. During hospitalization, she developed severe melena. Small bowel endoscopy revealed multiple small ulcers in the jejunum. During...
Human Parvovirus B19 (B19V) infection usually causes erythema infectiosum (EI). In recent decades, several uncommon exanthems have been described in association with B19V. Recently, haemorrhagic manifestations such as purpuric-petechial rash have been reported. We describe an unusual paediatric case of B19V associated with generalized petechial eruption, and a review of the recent literature.
BACKGROUND Children with petechial rash are more likely to undergo invasive diagnostics, to be treated with antibiotics for potential bacterial infection and to be hospitalized. However, viruses have also been associated with petechial rash. Nonetheless, a systematic analysis of viral infections with modern available techniques as quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in the context ...
A 58-year-old man was admitted after a generalized tonic-clonic seizure. The neurological examination was normal, except for bilateral periorbital, enoral and superior thoracic petechiae, which had only occurred after the seizure. The blood pressure, CT scan of the brain and routine laboratory were unremarkable. Seizure-related petechial rash is a rare finding that might be helpful for the diag...
Clinically, chickens showed progressively developed clinical signs represented by sever cyanosis of the comb and wattles with hemorrhage at the shanks, depression, and ruffling feathers with loss of appetite and high daily mortalities. The ducks showed severe neurological signs as torticollus, seizures and inability to stand with mild signs of diarrhea and depression. Grossly, chickens showed h...
Spontaneous organ hemorrhage is the major complication in thrombocytopenia with a potential fatal outcome. However, the exact mechanisms regulating vascular integrity are still unknown. Here, we demonstrate that neutrophils recruited to inflammatory sites are the cellular culprits inducing thrombocytopenic tissue hemorrhage. Exposure of thrombocytopenic mice to UVB light provokes cutaneous pete...
The effects of endotoxin on the epinephrine reactivity of blood vessels in the rat mesoappendix have been studied. Following intravenous injection of a relatively small, sublethal dose of endotoxin, the terminal arterioles and venules exhibited greatly augmented and prolonged vasoconstrictor responses to epinephrine and norepinephrine. Hyperreactivity became evident within 30 minutes after inje...
To the editor: Rash occurs in about 2% of patients with influenza A, and it is also described in cases with pandemic A (H1N1) influenza. In our department, rash was encountered in 5 ⁄ 52(9Æ6%) of hospitalized children, aged 3 months to 13 years, with confirmed, by RT-PCR, pandemic influenza A (H1N1). RT-PCR was performed, as previously described, by using the RealTime Ready Inf A ⁄H1N1 Detectio...
