Synthesis of a novel perylene-neomycin conjugate (3) and the properties of its binding to human telomeric G-quadruplex DNA, 5'-d[AG3(T2AG3)3] (4), are reported. Various spectroscopic techniques were employed to characterize the binding of conjugate 3 to 4. A competition dialysis assay revealed that 3 preferentially binds to 4, in the presence of other nucleic acids, including DNA, RNA, DNA-RNA ...
A nonfullerene acceptor based on a 3D tetraperylene diimide is developed for bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaics. The disruption of perylene diimide planarity with a 3D framework suppresses the self-aggregation of perylene diimide and inhibits excimer formation. From planar monoperylene diimide to 3D tetraperylene diimide, a significant improvement of power conversion efficiency from 0.63...
We report unique and spontaneous formation of hydrogels of perylene derivatives with melamine. The luminescent gel network is formed by H-type aggregation of the perylene core, supramolecularly cross-linked by melamine units. As a result of controlled aggregation in the extended nanofibers, strong exciton fluorescence emission is observed.
The functionalization of perylene bisimide by squaric acid afforded halochromic dyes with pronounced acidity. The dye senses solvent polarity, pH and humidity by means of pronounced changes in absorption spectra and thin film color through the intramolecular charge transfer between perylene and cyclobutene cores initiated by protonation/deprotonation.
Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals a flat perylene π-scaffold for a perylene bisimide bearing bulky 2,6-diphenylphenoxy substituents at the 1,7 bay positions. The flat structure provides sharp vibronic progressions in the absorption and fluorescence spectra, the sterical shielding outstanding fluorescence quantum yields in the solid state.
Uniform and crystalline nanofibers of perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA), an insoluble organic semiconducting molecule, have been achieved by self-assembling the molecules using chemical reaction mediated conversion of an appropriately designed soluble precursor, perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) using carbodiimide chemistry.
Novel direction-controlled movements of microribbons self-assembled from perylene diimide molecules are reported on various hydrophobic surfaces under scanning laser irradiation. A "dynamic exciton charge model" is developed to elucidate the underlying mechanism. The findings provide an innovative strategy for the design of microscale systems capable of continuous and directional movement drive...
A new type of fluorescent sensor has been developed from a perylene based molecule, N,N0-dideoxythymidine-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic diimide (TT-PTCDI); the strong, highly selective binding between the thymine ligand (T) and Hg ion enables efficient sensing of mercury ions based on a fluorescence quenching mechanism, which is primarily caused by metalcoordination induced molecular aggreg...
Two new perylene bisimide (PBI) derivatives possessing crown ether receptors at the 1,7 bay-positions and solubilizing ionic imide substituents were synthesized and their self-assembly properties in the presence of different metal ions were studied, revealing highly selective barium ion templated self-assembly of 15-crown-5 functionalized PBI into H-type dimer aggregates.
Biscarbazole-loaded perylene bisimide (PBI) dye micelles in water afforded a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based white-light emitting nano luminary system with biscarbazoles as energy donors and PBI micelles as acceptors.
