Kidney stone is a common problem in population and had medical or surgical treatment. Surgery treatment had many technique, but now, Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a standard surgery care of renal calculi. In recent years, surgeons defined modification methods of PCNL such as tubeless PCNL and totally tubeless PCNL. These modified methods were associated with less complication, reduced ...
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has evolved to become the preferred minimally invasive approach for treating large-burden renal stones. This approach has replaced open renal surgery for stones. It has also evolved into a treatment option for treating noninvasive urothelial tumors of the upper urinary tract. Current percutaneous access techniques involve fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance w...
INTRODUCTION Several therapeutic methods are used in the management of lower pole caliceal calculi. This survey has been conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous nephrolithotomy in the management of lower pole calculi. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-five patients, 43 males and 12 females with a mean age of 41.5 (range 11 to 75) years, who had suffered from lower pole calicea...
INTRODUCTION In 1941 Rupel and Brown used a rigid cystoscope to extract the residual stones through a drain tract following open surgery.(1) That was the beginning idea of endoscopic renal surgery. L shaped endoscopes were used for visualizing calyceal stones during open procedures. The percutaneous nephrostomy was described by Goodwin in 1955 as a temporary solution for obstruction secondary h...
OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of ureteroscopy-assisted retrograde nephrostomy (UARN) during percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). MATERIALS AND METHODS From April 2009 to September 2011, a total of 50 patients underwent PCNL for large renal stones (stone burden >2 cm). We performed UARN in the Galdakao-modified Valdivia position for 27 patients (UARN PCNL) and ultrasonography-assisted perc...
We report the case of a patient with pain and an abdominal palpable mass whose tests showed a right pelvic kidney with a 4-cm stone in the renal pelvis. We describe the successful management through laparoscopic assisted percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in ectopic pelvic kidney, stressing that this method is a minimally invasive therapeutic option in such cases.
Nephrolithiasis accelerates the renal failure in the patients with ADPKD. In order to evaluate the role of percutaneous nephrolithotomy in management of calculus in these patients, 11 patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and renal stones were included in the study. Two patients had bilateral renal stones. All patients were treated by percutaneous nephrolithotomy under ultr...
OBJECTIVE To review the current approach to training and the learning curve for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), and to formulate a recommendation for structured PCNL training for the urologist in-training. METHODS Publications related to PCNL training, simulator training, surgical training and working-hour restrictions on surgical training were reviewed. RESULTS The key components for ...
