We report two cases of poliomyelitis in which an anterolateral thigh myocutaneous free flap was harvested from the paralytic limb for oral reconstruction. We observed a decrease in the pedicle diameter of the anterolateral thigh flap, but the blood supply to the skin paddle was adequate.
N and classification of compound perforator flaps can be as complex and convoluted as the vascular anatomy of these multicomponent flaps. The article “The Complete Nomenclature for Combined Perforator Flaps”1 presents the author’s proposed classification and standardized nomenclature for combined perforator flaps. I believe that the author’s classification of compound perforator flaps as either...
BACKGROUND Free flaps have a distinct role in a select group of patients with large abdominal wall defects. They offer a completely autologous reconstructive solution in a single stage for difficult abdominal wounds for which pedicled flaps would be inadequate. METHODS From 1996 to 2005, five patients with complex abdominal wall defects underwent reconstruction using free flaps. All patients ...
This case report presents salvage of a partially failing anterolateral thigh flap. A 37-year-old male, a victim of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, received tumor ablation and a chimeric anterolateral thigh skin and vastus lateralis muscle flap reconstruction. Before ligation of pedicle, both skin and muscle portions had robust blood supply; however, only the vastus lateralis muscular com...
Abstract Background Pedicled perforator flaps have become a contemporary alternative to muscle for soft tissue reconstruction as they reduced donor site morbidity, avoid the need microsurgical transfer, and are versatile reliable. The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap was first introduced free has since gained popularity pedicled flap. Here we review our experience using ALT regional reconstructio...
The aim of the present study is to assess functional outcomes after hemiglossectomy and microvascular reconstruction. Twenty-six patients underwent primary tongue microvascular reconstruction after hemiglossectomy. Twelve patients were reconstructed using a free radial forearm flap and 14 with an anterolateral thigh flap. Speech intelligibility, swallowing capacity and quality of life scores we...
The anterolateral thigh flap has been the workhouse flap for coverage of soft-tissue defects in head and neck for decades. However, the reconstruction of multiple and complex soft-tissue defects in head and neck with multipaddled anterolateral thigh chimeric flaps is still a challenge for reconstructive surgeries. Here, a clinical series of 12 cases is reported in which multipaddled anterolater...
Background: Soft tissue defect of dorsum hand is a difficult problem to deal with in reconstructive surgery. Various factors have be considered for planning the reconstruction. Aims and Objectives: To assess overall incidence soft on hand, evaluation different options coverage assessment outcome complications (both primary donor sites) procedures like tissue. Materials Methods: We present our e...
BACKGROUND Surgery remains the first choice of treatment for tongue cancer. Immediate reconstruction should be performed after wide resection of tumour. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anterolateral thigh flap for reconstruction of lingual defects. METHODS We report 39 consecutive oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma patients who underwent lingual reconstruction with the anterolatera...
