Single crystals of the title compound, Pb(2)CrF(7), were obtained by solid-state reaction. The monoclinic structure is isotypic with Pb(2)RhF(7) and is built up of CrF(6) (3-) octa-hedra isolated from each other, inserted in a fluorite-related matrix of PbF(6) distorted octa-hedra, and PbF(8) square anti-prisms sharing edges and corners. The seventh F atom is 'independent', connected only to th...
OBJECTIVES This study targeted carbon dioxide (CO(2)) oscillations seen in oscillatory ventilation with dynamic pre-emptive CO(2) administration. BACKGROUND Oscillations in end-tidal CO(2) (et-CO(2)) drive the ventilatory oscillations of periodic breathing (PB) and central sleep apnea in heart failure (HF). METHODS Seven healthy volunteers simulated PB, while undergoing dynamic CO(2) admini...
An unprecedented layered Pb-Kemp's triacid compound, Pb3[C6(CH3)3(CO2)3H6]2[DMF]3, has been synthesized. The material exhibits a selective CO2 adsorption, a reversible DMF coordination, and an intercalative hexanal addition reaction. A competing crystallization reaction under solvothermal conditions using Pb(2+) and Cd(2+) with Kemp's triacid reveals higher selectivity of Cd(2+) over Pb(2+).
The reaction of lead(II) nitrate and benzoic acid in aqueous solution yields the title polymer, [Pb(C(7)H(5)O(2))(2)(H(2)O)](n). The asymmetric unit contains one Pb(II) ion, two benzoate ligands and one water mol-ecule. The Pb-O bond distances are in the range 2.494 (4)-2.735 (4) Å. The Pb⋯Pb distance is 4.0683 (4) Å, indicating an insignificant metal-metal inter-action. The Pb(II) atom has a d...
In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Pb(2)(C(4)H(5)NO(4))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(4)S(2))(2)]·4H(2)O, the dinuclear Pb(II) complex mol-ecule is centrosymmetric. The Pb atom is chelated by a tridentate imino-diacetate anion (IDA) and a diamino-bithia-zole (DABT) ligand, while a carboxyl-ate O atom from an adjacent IDA anion further bridges the Pb atom with a longer Pb-O bond [2.892 (3) Å]. The ...
The K(+) ionophore nigericin is shown to be highly effective as an ionophore for Pb(2+) but not other divalent cations, including Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Mn(2+), Co(2+), Ca(2+), Ni(2+), and Sr(2+). Among this group a minor activity for Cu(2+) transport is seen, while for the others activity is near or below the limit of detection. The selectivity of nigericin for Pb(2+) exceeds that of ionomyci...
BACKGROUND The onset of plastic bronchitis (PB) can be debilitating in survivors of Fontan surgery. The rarity of this complication makes designing studies to understand risk factors for PB challenging. This 2-center case-control study aimed to describe patient outcomes and to assess the association of antecedent patient factors with PB development. METHODS AND RESULTS Using center registries...
NDR1/2 kinase is essential in dendrite morphology and spine formation, which is regulated by cellular Ca2+. Lead (Pb) is a potent blocker of L-type calcium channel and our recent work showed Pb exposure impairs dendritic spine outgrowth in hippocampal neurons in rats. But the sensitivity of Pb-induced spine maturity with mixed factors (gender×age×brain regions) remains unknown. This study aimed...
The mechanism for acute toxicity of lead (Pb) in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was investigated at Pb concentrations close to the 96 h LC50 of 1.0 mg dissolved Pb l(-1) (0.8-1.4, 95% C.I.) determined in dechlorinated Hamilton city tap water (from Lake Ontario, hardness=140 mg l(-1) CaCO(3)). Tissue Pb accumulation associated with death was highest in the gill, followed by kidney and liver...
Using the energy minimization calculations based on an interfacial potential and a first-principles total energy method, respectively, we show that (2 × 2)/(3 × 3) Pb/Cu(111) system is a stable structure among all the [(n - 1) × (n - 1)]/(n × n) Pb/Cu(111) (n = 2, 3,…, 12) structures. The electronic structure calculations indicate that self-organized ordered Pb semi-clusters arrays are formed o...
