Sixteen of 100 full-time occupational therapists are injured while performing manual patient handling techniques. We developed a Theory of Planned Behavior self-report questionnaire to determine what educators teach and the behavioral constructs that best predict intention to change curriculum content. RATIONALE Moving patients from low-performing hospitals to high-performing hospitals may improve patient outcomes. These transfers may be particularly important in critical care, where small relative improvements can yield substantial absolute changes in survival. OBJECTIVE To characterize the existing critical care network in terms of the pattern of transfers. METHODS In a retrospective co...
Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders are the major health problems in nurses. One of the main reasons is patient transfer. The work technique of nursing personnel during patient transfers has been evaluated using different methods. One of the most useful ones is Direct Nurse Observation Instrument (DINO). In this article using the inverse Laplace transform, we show analytical solutions for the generalized mass transfers with (and without) a chemical reaction. These transfers have been expressed as the Couette flow with the fractional derivative of the Caputo sense. Also, using the Hankel contour for the Bromwich's integral, the solutions are given in terms of the generalized Airy functions.
Examination of data derived from Medicare provider analysis and review (MEDPAR) discharge records for 152,337 transfer episodes of aged Medicare beneficiaries indicates that aged Medicare transfer patients have initial stays comparable to non-transfers in terms of length of stay, case-mix intensity, and total charges. During the final part of the transfer episode, however, transfers are clearly...
Poor handover between doctors is a recognised cause of error in hospitals.[1] Watford General Hospital is a busy acute trust in southern England, where high admission rates necessitate timely patient transfers from the acute admissions unit (AAU) to the medical wards. We found that doctors were infrequently informed of patient transfers, and they rarely handed over patient care when a patient w...
BACKGROUND Low-back disorders are related to biomechanical demands, and nurses are among the professionals with the highest rates. Quantification of risk factors is important for safety assessment and reduction of low-back disorders. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to quantify physical demands of frequent nursing tasks and provide evidence-based recommendations to increase low-back safety. METHO...
