A simple approach was introduced to enhance the photostability of CuInS2@ZnS core@shell quantum dots (QDs) by doping aluminium into the ZnS shell. Aluminium in the as-prepared QDs was oxidized to Al2O3, which formed a passivation oxide layer that effectively prevents photo-degradation of QDs during long-term light irradiation.

Bimagnetic monodisperse CoFe₂O₄/Fe₃O₄ core/shell nanoparticles have been prepared by solution evaporation route. To demonstrate preferential coating of iron oxide onto the surface of ferrite nanoparticles X-ray diffraction (XRD), High resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) and Raman spectroscopy have been performed. XRD analysis using Rietveld refinement technique confirms single ...

We have developed novel Pluronic/chitosan nanocapsules encapsulating iron oxide nanoparticles. These nanocapsules were produced by dispersing hydrophobically-modified iron oxide nanoparticles and amine-reactive Pluronic derivatives in an organic solvent, and subsequently emulsification in an aqueous chitosan solution by ultrasonication. The resultant shell cross-linked nanocapsules had a unique...

A new method for preparing magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles coated by organic dye-doped silica shell was developed in this article. Iron oxide nanoparticles were first coated with dye-impregnated silica shell by the hydrolysis of hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HTMOS) which produced a hydrophobic core for the entrapment of organic dye molecules. Then, the particles were coated with a hydrophilic sh...

An amphiphilic gelatin-iron oxide core/calcium phosphate shell (AGIO@CaP-DOX) nanoparticle was successfully synthesized as an efficient anti-cancer drug delivery system, where doxorubicin (DOX) as a model molecule was encapsulated by electrolytic co-deposition during CaP shell formation. The shell of CaP precipitate played a pivotal role, not only in acting as a drug depot, but also in renderin...

We attempt to meet the general design requirements for high-performance supercapacitor electrodes by combining the strategies of lightweight substrate, porous nanostructure design, and conductivity modification. We fabricate a new type of 3D porous and thin graphite foams (GF) and use as the light and conductive substrates for the growth of metal oxide core/shell nanowire arrays to form integra...

Nanoscale Zero Valent Iron (nZVI) represents a promising material for subsurface water remediation technology. However, dry, bare nZVI particles are highly reactive, being pyrophoric when they are in contact with air. The current trends of nZVI manufacturing lead to the surface passivation of dry nZVI particles with a thin oxide layer, which entails a decrease in their reactivity. In this work ...
