Sir, The worldwide emergence of carbapenemases is a major health issue leaving clinicians with few treatment options. Implementation of infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures relies on early detection of carbapenemase producers and distinction from other carbapenem resistance mechanisms. Various carbapenem hydrolysis methods allow detection of carbapenemase activity but do not differ...

Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacilli, i.e., Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Acinetobacter are of increased concern for the public health around world. There is urgent need rapid accurate tests in order to provide correct treatment prevent bacterial spread healthcare settings. The aim this study was evaluate three commercial multiplex carbapenemase with CE-IVD marking: Ea...

Comparative evaluation of the recently developed chromogenic culture medium chromID OXA-48 (bioMérieux) with chromID CARBA (bioMérieux) and SUPERCARBA showed that chromID OXA-48 and SUPERCARBA media have the highest sensitivity for detection of OXA-48 producing Enterobacteriaceae (91% and 93%) comparatively to chromID CARBA (21 %). The chromID OXA-48 has the highest specificity, with 100%, as c...

A collection of 15 carbapenem-resistance Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates was analysed on two tertiary hospitals in Mexico. The OXA-51 was identified in all isolates, followed by OXA-239 and OXA-58; OXA-239 is described as a new OXA-23-like allele. These carbapenemases were identified on four clonal groups, distributed between two neighbouring hospitals. Acinetobacter baumannii is poor...

Ralstonia mannitolilytica, a Gram-negative aerobic bacterium, is an opportunistic human pathogen that is becoming more common in cases of nosocomial infections. We report for the first time the whole-genome sequence analysis of R. mannitolilytica strain MRY14-0246, which carries the intrinsic OXA-443/OXA-22-like and OXA-444/OXA-60-like β-lactamase genes and is resistant to meropenem.

BACKGROUND Detection of carbapenem hydrolyzing class D beta lactamase OXA-181, (a variant of OXA-48) in Enterobacteriaceae, is important, to institute appropriate therapy and to initiate preventive measures. This study was done to determine the presence of OXA 48 and its derivative OXA-181 in Enterobacteriaceae of pathogenic significance. MATERIAL AND METHODS One hundred and eleven non-repeti...

Multiple drug-resistant strains of Acinetobacter have created therapeutic problems worldwide. This study was conducted to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and prevalence of bla(OXA-type) carbapenemases among isolates of Acinetobacter spp. obtained from Iranian patients. Here, 128 Acinetobacter isolates were identified at the species level, and their susceptibilities to differ...

Oxanine (Oxa, O), one of the major damaged bases from guanine generated by NO- or HNO2-induced nitrosative deamination, has been considered as a mutagen-potent lesion. For exploring more detailed properties of Oxa, large-scale preparation of Oxa-containing oligodeoxynucleotide (Oxa-ODN) with the desired base sequence is a prerequisite. In the present study, we have developed a chemical synthesi...

Orexins (hypocretins) are novel neuropeptides that appear to play a role in the regulation of energy balances. Orexin-A (OXA) increases food intake in rodents, and fasting activates OXA neurons in both the lateral hypothalamic area and gut. OXA is also found in the endocrine pancreas; however, little is known about its release or functional significance. In this study, we show that depolarizing...

The N1,N1-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(N2-phenyloxalamide) (OXA) is a soluble-type nucleator with a dissolving temperature of 230 ◦C in poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) matrix. The effect of thermal history and shear flow on the crystallization behavior of the PLLA/OXA samples was investigated by rheometry, polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide angle X-ray diffract...
