High-yielded Bi2Te3 hexagonal nanoplates were fabricated via a facile solvothermal method with the assistance of poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP). Effects of PVP molecular weight and concentration on the morphology and size distribution of the products were illustrated in this study. Molecular weight of PVP is significant for determining the morphology of Bi2Te3. The hexagonal nanoplates with hig...

We report the crystal orientation tuning of LiFePO(4) nanoplates for high rate lithium battery cathode materials. Olivine LiFePO(4) nanoplates can be easily prepared by glycol-based solvothermal process, and the largest crystallographic facet of the LiFePO(4) nanoplates, as well as so-caused electrochemical performances, can be tuned by the mixing procedure of starting materials. LiFePO(4) nano...

We communicate an unconventional synthesis of Au nanoplates with high yield and excellent reproducibility through polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-assisted H2O2 reduction. Unlike the ones prepared using halide-based surfactants, the PVP-capped Au nanoplates are found to afford fairly easy bio-functionalization, suggesting a vastly expanded spectrum of applications in bio-related fields.

We report a high-yield synthesis of single-crystal hexagonal Sb2Te3 nanoplates using a solvothermal approach. The experimental results show that the concentration of capping agent CTAB played a key role in the formation of nanoplates. This new nanostructure may provide opportunity for the exploration of novel thermoelectric properties and have potential applications in thermoelectric nanodevices.

Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties of metallic nanostructures, such as gold, are very sensitive to the dielectric environment of the material, which can simply be adjusted by changing its shape and size through modification of the synthesizing process. Thus, these unique properties are very promising, particularly for the detection of various types of chemicals, for example b...

Well-defined m-BiVO(4) nanoplates with exposed {001} facets have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal route, without the use of any template or organic surfactant. The as-prepared m-BiVO(4) nanoplates exhibit greatly enhanced activity in the visible-light photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants and photocatalytic oxidation of water for O(2) generation.

Silver nanoplates were prepared by modified galvanic displacement on commercial copper foil. SEM, TEM, UV-vis and XPS were employed to analyze those closely packed silver nanoplates. This type of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy substrates showed strong surface plasmon absorption and reliable surface-enhanced Raman activity.

Epitaxial heterostructures with precisely controlled composition and electronic modulation are of central importance for electronics, optoelectronics, thermoelectrics, and catalysis. In general, epitaxial material growth requires identical or nearly identical crystal structures with small misfit in lattice symmetry and parameters and is typically achieved by vapor-phase depositions in vacuum. W...

While graphene may appear to be the ultimate support membrane for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging of DNA nanostructures, very little is known if it poses an advantage over conventional carbon supports in terms of resolution and contrast. Microscopic investigations are carried out on DNA origami nanoplates that are supported onto freestanding graphene, using advanced TEM technique...

Photocatalytic conversion of solar energy to chemical energy is an efficient process in green chemistry because it facilitates room temperature chemical transformations by generating electronically excited states in photocatalysts. We report here on the robust synthesis, detailed structural characterization, and especially photocatalytic properties of plasmonic Pd hexagonal nanoplates for chemi...
