We describe the organic phase transfer of surfactant-stabilized rhodium nanoparticles previously synthesized in an aqueous solution of N,N-dimethyl-N-dodecyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium chloride (HEA12Cl); the addition of LiN(Tf)2 to the aqueous suspension of Rh-HEA12Cl transferred the hydrosol nanoparticles to an ionic liquid phase.

Novel organic-inorganic hybrid materials comprising nanoscaled layered silicates and native aluminium hydroxide phthalocyanine (Al(OH)Pc) allowed for the first time the exploitation of their unique photophysical properties in aqueous ambience. In particular, we were able to observe the efficient emission of Al(OH)Pc-nanoclay hybrids and generation of singlet oxygen in aqueous solution.

A microfluidic-based approach for the fabrication of organic contaminants absorbing core-shell particles is demonstrated. The hydrophobic porous core absorbs oil while the hydrophilic surface enables the particles to be well-dispersed in aqueous solutions. These particles can uptake oil from aqueous solution saturated with oil or via direct contact with oil blobs as depicted in the figure.
