DNA extracts from white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) that had infected post-larvae and juveniles of cultured shrimp, wild shrimp and crabs, which had been collected from different hatcheries and farms located along both the east and west coasts of India, revealed considerable variation in several previously identified WSSV DNA repeat regions. These include the 54 bp repeat in ORF 94, the 69 bp re...

Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is a recently discovered gammaherpesvirus that is the etiologic agent of Kaposi sarcoma (KS). The natural history of primary HHV-8 infection, including clinical outcome and host immune responses that may be important in preventing disease related to HHV-8, has not been elucidated. The present study characterized the clinical, immunologic, and virologic parameters of ...

BACKGROUND Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a hypersensitivity disorder induced by Aspergillus species colonizing the bronchial tree. There are patients with asthma who fulfill the diagnostic criteria of ABPA by serologic evaluation (specific IgE/IgG to Aspergillus fumigatus), bronchography, CT, and or conventional linear tomography. OBJECTIVE To identify different forms of A...

Orf, also known as ecthyma contagiosum or contagious pustular dermatitis, is a viral zoonotic disease resulting from the direct or indirect contact of damaged skin with infected animals. The causative microorganism is the orf virus, an epitheliotropic DNA virus from the Parapoxvirus group, which generally infects sheep, goats, and various other domestic and wild ovine animals. A male patient pr...

Orf virus is a parapoxvirus that causes recurring contagious ecthyma or orf disease in goat, sheep and other wild and domestic ruminants. Infected animals show signs of pustular lesions on the mouth and muzzle and develop scabs over the lesions. Although the infection is usually cleared within 1-2 months, delayed growth and associated secondary infections could still impact the herds. Orf virus...

The aim of this work was to evaluate the immunogenicity and neutralizing activity of sheep pox virus (SPPV; genus Capripoxvirus, family Poxviridae) structural proteins as candidate subunit vaccines to control sheep pox disease. SPPV structural proteins were identified by sequence homology with proteins of vaccinia virus (VACV) strain Copenhagen. Four SPPV proteins (SPPV-ORF 060, SPPV-ORF 095, S...

a complication in the analysis of the role of icp34.5 gene in the herpes simplex virus type-1 (hsv-1) lifecycle is the presence of overlapping antisense gene, open reading frame p (orf p), which is also deleted in hsv-1 icp34.5 negative mutants. a hsv-1 wild type strain (17+) icp34.5/orf p deletion mutant (1716) is totally avirulent in animal models and impaired in a number of in vitro function...

Isolated outer membranes of Borrelia burgdorferi were used in immunoblotting experiments with sera from immune mice to identify new putative Lyme disease vaccine candidates. One immunoreactive polypeptide migrated on polyacrylamide gels just proximal to outer surface protein C and comigrated with [3H]palmitate-labeled polypeptides. A degenerate oligonucleotide primer based upon internal amino a...

Coronaviruses (CoV) have recently emerged as potentially serious pathogens that can cause significant human morbidity and death. The severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV was identified as the etiologic agent of the 2002-2003 international SARS outbreak. Yet, how SARS evades innate immune responses to cause human disease remains poorly understood. In this study, we show that a protein en...
