A facile colloidal synthesis of BiF3 nanocrystals (NCs) via thermal decomposition of bismuth(III) trifluoroacetate in oleylamine is reported. The NC size can be tuned from 6 to 40 nm by the adjustment of synthesis parameters. After removal of the capping surfactant molecules, BiF3 NCs were tested as a cathode material for Li-ion batteries. Close to theoretical Li-ion storage capacities of up to...

High performance nanostructured iron fluorides with controllable sizes were successfully synthesized using oleylamine as a size tuning agent for the first time. They exhibited excellent cathode performances with large retensive capacities exceeding 200 mA h g(-1) after 50 cycles and outstanding rate performances of nearly 100 mA h g(-1) even at 10 C.

Silver orthophosphate nanocrystals with controlled particle size have been synthesized using a simple, reproducible and easily scaled up route based on the reaction between silver ions, oleylamine and phosphoric acid. The obtained nanocrystals are highly uniform in size and exhibit high visible light activity for the photodecomposition of organic compounds.

Monodisperse, size-controlled Ni-P nanoparticles were synthesised in a single step process using triphenyl-phosphane (TPP), oleylamine (OA), and Ni(II)acetyl-acetonate. The nanoparticles were amorphous, contained ~30 at% P and their size was controlled between 7-21 nm simply by varying the amount of TPP. They are catalytically active for tailored carbon nanotube growth.

A novel synthesis method for the preparation of Cu2ZnSnS4 nanocrystals is presented using a liquid precursor of tin, namely tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate, which yields small and nearly monodisperse NCs either in the kesterite or in the wurtzite phase depending on the sulfur source (elemental sulfur in oleylamine vs. dodecanethiol).

Asphalt binder modification techniques are beneficial for the performance improvement of roads because they can be durable, present less permanent deformation, and provide longer fatigue life. The main agents involved in this process polymers, fillers, fibers, and, more recently, nanomaterials, which have presented technical economic feasibility. nanoparticles were added to base asphalt at a co...

Nonthermal plasmas can produce high quality nanocrystals in a continuous process without requiring solvents. A nonthermal plasma process is demonstrated to synthesize stoichiometric Cu2S nanocrystals, which show no signs of oxidation by spectrophotometry after 2 months in the ambient when stabilized with oleylamine and dispersed in toluene.

Hierarchically structured porous TiO2-B spheres have been synthesized via a hydrothermal process using amorphous titania/oleylamine composites as a self-sacrificing template. The TiO2-B spheres are constructed by interconnected nanotubes and possess a high specific surface area of 295 m(2) g(-1). When evaluated as an anode material in lithium-half cells, the as-obtained TiO2-B material exhibits...

Herein we describe the first synthesis of pure mono-disperse spherical hcp-nanocrystals ferromagnetic at room temperature. Our strategy, based on the simple combination of oleylamine and ClCo(PPh3)3, allows the one-pot synthesis of size-controlled hcp-nanocrystals. The size and shape of the nanocrystals can be tuned by varying the reaction time or the concentration.
