BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is a widely accepted surgical technique for patients with early breast cancer. The technique improves cosmetic outcomes, but a decrease in nipple sensitivity has been observed with NSM because of the incision into the nipple-areola complex (NAC). Endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy with skin lifting system (ENSMSLS) removes all breast t...

Cell fates in the sea urchin embryo are remarkably labile, despite the fact that maternal polarity and zygotic programs of differential gene expression pattern the embryo from the earliest stages. Recent work has focused on transcriptional gene regulatory networks (GRNs) deployed in specific embryonic territories during early development. The micromere-primary mesenchyme cell (PMC) GRN drives t...

BACKGROUND Recent advances in surgical techniques for breast cancer, including nipple sparing mastectomy (NSM), reflect growing interest in optimal aesthetic outcomes and associated psychological recovery without sacrificing oncologic safety and efficacy. A new surgical illumination and visualization technology addresses this need while enabling broader application and adoption of the nipple sp...

Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a member of the genus Phlebovirus within the family Bunyaviridae. It can cause severe epidemics among ruminants and fever, myalgia, a hemorrhagic syndrome, and/or encephalitis in humans. The RVFV M segment encodes the NSm and 78-kDa proteins and two major envelope proteins, Gn and Gc. The biological functions of the NSm and 78-kDa proteins are unknown; both pro...

MD also helps to spare unnecessary surgery. In patients with nipple discharge, duct excision can be avoided in those with a normal ductoscopy. Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is cosmetically superior to traditional mastectomy but there are concerns about the oncological safety with nipple-areola preservation. MD can be employed to exclude major duct involvement and this may help to select patie...

Nerve sheath myxoma (NSM) of the oral mucosa is a slow-growing, benign, often asymptomatic submucosal mass. We report on a case of classical NSM of the tongue, with diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the case. Many NSM arise within the endoneurium of a peripheral nerve. It is a rare condition with no apparent differences between sexes in its prevalence. It can occur at any age.

Neurologic stunned myocardium (NSM) is a phenomenon where neurologic events give rise to cardiac abnormalities. Neurologic events like stroke and seizures cause sympathetic storm and autonomic dysregulation that result in myocardial injury. The clinical presentation can involve troponin elevation, left ventricular dysfunction, and ECG changes. These findings are similar to Takotsubo cardiomyopa...

BACKGROUND Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) has gained popularity for breast cancer treatment and prevention. There are limited data about long-term oncologic safety of this procedure. STUDY DESIGN We reviewed oncologic outcomes of consecutive therapeutic NSM at a single institution. Nipple-sparing mastectomy was offered to patients with no radiologic or clinical evidence of nipple involvement...

SUMMARY Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is gaining acceptance as an oncologically sound and cosmetically superior mastectomy technique. Debate exists over the management of positive margins near the nipple-areola complex. This case report presents a novel approach to the management of margin-positive ductal carcinoma in situ in NSM. A 50-year-old white female with invasive ductal carcinoma unde...

BACKGROUND Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM), understood as an oncologically valid procedure, is relatively new, and is an evolution of traditional mastectomy, particularly in relation to breast-conserving surgery. The anterior perforating branches are responsible for the cutaneous vascularization of the breast skin, and their preservation is a fundamental step to avoid possible postoperative nec...
