We continue the spectral analysis of differential operators with complex coefficients, extending some results for Sturm-Liouville to higher order operators. give conditions essential spectrum be empty, and operator have compact resolvent. Conditions are given on coefficients resolvent Hilbert-Schmidt. These new even real i.e., selfadjoint case. Asymptotic is a central tool. See also https://ejd...
We consider partial differential operators H = − div(C∇) in divergence form on R with a positive-semidefinite, symmetric, matrix C of real L∞-coefficients. First, we prove that one can define H as a selfadjoint operator on L2(R ) such that the corresponding semigroup extends as a positive, contraction semigroup to all the Lp-spaces. Secondly, we establish that H is strongly elliptic if and only...
The concept of multilevel filtering (MF) preconditioning applied to second-order selfadjoint elliptic problems is briefly reviewed. It is then shown how to effectively apply this concept to other elliptic problems such as the second-order anisotropic problem, biharmonic equation, equations on locally refined grids and interface operators arising from domain decomposition methods. Numerical resu...
We prove Lieb-Thirring-type bounds on eigenvalues of non-selfadjoint Jacobi operators, which are nearly as strong as those proven previously for the case of selfadjoint operators by Hundertmark and Simon. We use a method based on determinants of operators and on complex function theory, extending and sharpening earlier work of Borichev, Golinskii and Kupin.
It is shown that on every finite network with at least one circuit there exist second order differential operators having an infinite number of nonreal eigenvalues. The presence of nonreal eigenvalues implies that these operators cannot be selfadjoint with respect to any metric. These eigenvalues reveal also the existence of oscillatory solutions for the corresponding time–dependent partial dif...
This is the first in a series of works devoted to small non-selfadjoint perturbations of selfadjoint h-pseudodifferential operators in dimension 2. In the present work we treat the case when the classical flow of the unperturbed part is periodic and the strength ǫ of the perturbation is ≫ h (or sometimes only ≫ h2) and bounded from above by hδ for some δ > 0. We get a complete asymptotic descri...
