This paper presents an improved gas-kinetic scheme based on the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The current method extends the previous gaskinetic Navier-Stokes solver developed by Xu and Prendergast by implementing a general nonequilibrium state to represent the gas distribution function at the beginning of each time step. As a result, the requir...

We study the partial regularity of a 3D model of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations which was recently introduced by the authors in [11]. This model is derived for axisymmetric flows with swirl using a set of new variables. It preserves almost all the properties of the full 3D Euler or Navier-Stokes equations except for the convection term which is neglected in the model. If we add the ...

We consider solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations with Navier boundary conditions in a bounded domain Ω in R with a Cboundary Γ. Navier boundary conditions can be expressed in the form ω(v) = (2κ−α)v · τ and v ·n = 0 on Γ, where v is the velocity, ω(v) the vorticity, n a unit normal vector, τ a unit tangent vector, and α is in L∞(Γ). Such solutions have been considered in [2] and [3], and, i...

We consider the Navier-Stokes equations with Navier friction boundary conditions and prove two results. First, in the case of a bounded domain we prove that weak Leray solutions converge (locally in time in dimension ≥ 3 and globally in time in dimension 2) as the viscosity goes to 0 to a strong solution of the Euler equations provided that the initial data converges in L2 to a sufficiently smo...

Abstract. We develop the concept of an infinite-energy statistical solution to the Navier-Stokes and Euler equations in the whole plane. We use a velocity formulation with enough generality to encompass initial velocities having bounded vorticity, which includes the important special case of vortex patch initial data. Our approach is to use well-studied properties of statistical solutions in a ...

Approximated solutions to two-dimensional and axisymmetric jet impinging flows have been presented here. Assumptions have been made to reduce the related full Navier-Stokes equations to a non-linear ordinary differential equation. The Admomian decomposition method (ADM) has been employed to obtain an approximated solution to this differential equation. A trial and error strategy has been used t...

The incompressibility constraint makes Navier-Stokes equations difficult. A reformulation to a better posed problem is needed before solving it numerically. The sequential regularization method (SRM) is a reformulation which combines the penalty method with a stabilization method in the context of constrained dynamical systems and has the benefit of both methods. In the paper, we study the exis...

In this paper, we investigate the existence of positive solutions for the ellipticequation $Delta^{2},u+c(x)u = lambda f(u)$ on a bounded smooth domain $Omega$ of $R^{n}$, $ngeq2$, with Navier boundary conditions. We show that there exists an extremal parameter$lambda^{ast}>0$ such that for $lambda< lambda^{ast}$, the above problem has a regular solution butfor $lambda> lambda^{ast}$, the probl...

In [4] the authors consider the two dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the exterior of an obstacle shrinking to a point and determine the limit velocity. Here we consider the same problem in the three dimensional case, proving that the limit velocity is a solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in the full space.
