The objective of this work was to examine the potential of oscillating nanomagnetic gene transfection systems (magnefect-nano™) for improving the transfection efficiency of NIH3T3 mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) in comparison to other non-viral transfection techniques-static magnetofection™ and the cationic lipid agent, Lipofectamine 2000™. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) associated with the p...

Here we demonstrate Au nanoparticle self-similar chain structure organized by triangle DNA origami with well-controlled orientation and <10 nm spacing. We show for the first time that a large DNA complex (origami) and multiple AuNP conjugates can be well-assembled and purified with reliable yields. The assembled structure could be used to generate high local-field enhancement. The same method c...

We demonstrate that magnetic oscillations of a current-biased magnetic nanocontact can be parametrically excited by a microwave field applied at twice the resonant frequency of the oscillation. The threshold microwave amplitude for the onset of the oscillation decreases with increasing bias current, and vanishes at the transition to the auto-oscillation regime. Theoretical analysis shows that m...

A facile organic-phase synthesis of monodisperse barium-doped iron oxide (Ba-Fe-O) nanoparticles (NPs) is reported. The Ba-Fe-O NPs can be converted into hexagonal barium ferrite NPs at 700 °C, showing strong ferromagnetic properties with H(c) reaching 5260 Oe and M(s) at 54 emu g(-1). Moreover, the Ba-Fe-O NPs can be assembled into densely packed magnetic arrays, providing a unique model syste...

Optimal control of nanomagnets has become an urgent problem for the field of spintronics as technological tools approach thermodynamically determined limits of efficiency. In complex, fluctuating systems, such as nanomagnetic bits, finding optimal protocols is challenging, requiring detailed information about the dynamical fluctuations of the controlled system. We provide a physically transpare...

Emergent behaviors occur when simple interactions between a system's constituent elements produce properties that the individual do not exhibit in isolation. This article reports tunable emergent observed domain wall (DW) populations of arrays interconnected magnetic ring-shaped nanowires under an applied rotating field. DWs interact stochastically at ring junctions to create mechanisms DW popu...
