Porphyrins and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are both relevant ligands in the fields of coordination organometallic chemistry. Despite evident structural differences, porphyrins NHCs have a lot common such as their ability to form strong metal-ligand bonds use catalysis, materials science biomedicine. During last decade, several molecular systems combining NHC were reported literature. The pre...
2-Phosphanyl-substituted imidazolium salts 2-PR2(4,5-Cl-Im)[OTf] (9a,b[OTf]) (4,5-Cl-Im = 4,5-dichloro-1,3-bis(2,6-di-isopropylphenyl)-imidazolium) (a: R = Cy, b: R = Ph) are prepared from the reaction of R2PCl (R = Cy, Ph) with NHC 8 (4,5-dichloro-1,3-bis(2,6-di-isopropylphenyl)-imidazolin-2-ylidene) in the presence of Me3SiOTf. 5-Phospanyl-substituted imidazolium salts 5-PR2(2,4-Cl-Im)[OTf] (...
N-Heterocyclic carbenes, or NHCs as they are commonly abbreviated, have attracted significant interest over the past decade due to their widespread utility in chemical transformations. As ligands on transition metals, NHCs have been found to have properties similar to those of the widely employed phosphine ligand, due to their ability to act as both a Lewis base and a Lewis acid at the same tim...
N atom, thus providing carbenes derived from pyrazolium, isothiazolium, and even quinolinium salts that contain a stabilizing heteroatom in a remote position (G-J in Figure 1). Recently, carbenes such as K, which are comprised of only one heteroatom and lack delocalization through the heterocycle, have been discovered as versatile ligands, thus constituting another important class of carbenes w...
Although salts of thiazolium cations are known, many readily prepared iodide salts have eluded spectroscopic and structural characterization; herein, data for a variety of such salts are reported. It has been demonstrated that thiazolium cations can be deprotonated to generate S,N-heterocyclic carbenes and their "electron rich olefin" dimers, but use of the former has been largely overshadowed ...
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) promote the transfer hydrogenation of various activated C=C, C=N, and N=N bonds with water as the proton source. The NHCs act as reducing reagents to be converted into their oxides. A detailed reaction mechanism is proposed on the basis of deuterium-labeling experiments.
The reaction of N-heterocyclic carbenes with polyaminoboranes [MeNH-BH2]n or [NH2-BH2]n at 20 °C led to depolymerisation and the formation of labile, monomeric aminoborane-NHC adducts, RNH-BH2-NHC (R = Me or H); a similar NHC adduct of Ph2N=BCl2 was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
