The striped mullet is in the order Mugiliformes, family Mugilidae. There are nine species of mullet found in the western central Atlantic, the most common being the striped mullet, Mugil cephalus Linnaeus, 1758. There are two species of mullet found in South Carolina territorial waters, the striped (M. cephalus) and white mullet (M. curema). The remaining species within this family are found mo...
Grey mullet, Mugil cephalus L. is an marine teleost suitable for culture in brackish water. To date, very few report on artificial propagation of grey mullet has ever been recorded and still seed stocking relies on wild recruitment. This paper describe the technique of controlled ovarian maturation and artificial spawning in this fish species. The brood stocks were obtained from cultured mature...
Recent studies have shown that archaea which were always thought to live under strict anoxic or extreme environmental conditions are also present in cold, oxygenated seawater, soils, the digestive tract of a holothurian deep-sea-deposit feeder, and a marine sponge. In this study, we show, by using PCR-mediated screening in other marine eukaryotes, that marine archaea are also present in the dig...
To evaluate the risk of Anisakiasis in the population, a common zoonotic disease worldwide caused by ingestion of larvae (L3) of the nematode family anisakidae (Anisakis spp, Contracaecum spp, Pseudoterranova spp) present in raw fish or undercooked constitute a health risk that should not be underestimated; fish caught in the area Golfete of Coro, Venezuela Falcòn state. Artisanal trawling shor...
the main objective of the present study was qualitative assessment of golden gray mullet stocks by using indicators of overfishing in iranian waters of the caspian sea during a long period (1991-2011). three fisheries indicators in catch were: 1. percentage of mature fish, with 100% as target; 2. percent of specimens with optimum length, with 100% as target; and 3. percentage of mega-spawners, ...
Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDDs/DFs), including 2378-substituted isomers were present in samples of shellfish and fish, and ambient air collected from Masan Bay, and Masan City, South Korea. Total concentrations of PCDDs/DFs in mussel and clam were 750 pg g(-1), lipid weight (lw), and 3418 pg g(-1), lw, respectively. Total concentrations of PCDDs/DFs in mullet, gizzar...
Stellantchasmus falcatus (Digenea: Heterophyidae) is first reported from Cambodia through recovery of the metacercariae from mullet fish and adult flukes from an experimentally infected hamster. We purchased 7 mullets, Chelon macrolepis, in a local market of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and each of them was examined by the artificial digestion method on May 2010. The metacercariae of S. falcatus were ...
The pathogenicity of a Nervous Necrosis Virus isolate obtained from naturally infected Golden grey mullet (Liza auratus) suffering serious mortalities in Iranian coastline water of the Caspian Sea was investigated for first time. An experimental infection has been performed using three groups, two experimental groups and one control group of Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) with mean weight 0.47±0.0...
