Multiple mapping conditioning / large eddy simulation (MMC-LES) is a promising model for turbulence-chemistry interactions, successfully applied to simulate different combustion regimes involving gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels. MMC-LES attempts produce accurate molecular mixing by localising in an independent, composition-like reference space. In the MMC model, between two stochastic particle...

Abstract We propose a multi-time scale energy management framework for smart photovoltaic (PV) system that can calculate optimized schedules battery operation, power purchases, and appliance usage. A PV is local community includes several buildings households equipped with panels batteries. However, due to the unpredictability fast variation of generation, maintaining balance reducing electrici...

a r t i c l e i n f o Continuous powder mixing has attracted a lot of interest within the pharmaceutical industry. Much work has been done recently that targets the characterization of continuous powder mixing. In this paper, a quantitative scaling up strategy is introduced that allows the transition from lab to industrial scale. The proposed methodology is based on the variance spectrum analys...

This work empirically examines the dependence of entrainment-mixing mechanisms on the averaging scale in cumulus clouds using in situ aircraft observations during the Routine Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Aerial Facility Clouds with Low Optical Water Depths Optical Radiative Observations (RACORO) field campaign. A new measure of homogeneous mixing degree is defined that can encompass all ty...

A new scientific approach to subgrid scale modeling is presented for chaotic problems involving a high degree of mixing over rapid time scales. RichtmyerMeshkov unstable flows are typical of such problems. Chemical reaction rates for turbulent mixtures are shown to converge with feasible grid resolution. The essential dependence of fluid mixing observables on transport phenomena is observed.

Monitoring of the formation of stable fluorescent nanoparticles from controlled mixing of a THF solution of poly(fluorene ethynylene)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) in a microfluidic laminar flow crossjunction by spatially resolved fluorescence spectroscopy reveals the time scale of particle formation as well as incorporation of small molecule guests and the role of solvent mixing.

BACKGROUND Non-Newtonian fluids occur in many relevant flow and mixing scenarios at the lab and industrial scale. The addition of acid or basic solutions to a non-Newtonian fluid is not an infrequent operation, particularly in Biotechnology applications where the pH of Non-Newtonian culture broths is usually regulated using this strategy. METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS We conducted mixing experimen...

The goal of this study was to evaluate tannic acid as a coagulant in turbidity removal. Tests were designed using Taguchi method and carried out on the synthetic and natural turbid samples. In order to optimize turbidity removal by tannic acid, seven factors including pH, coagulant dosage, rapid mixing rate, slow mixing rate, slow mixing time, sedimentation time and initial turbidity were inves...
