The fatty acid Composition of lipids from erythrocytes and depot fat of rats whose diet wac supplemented with various levels of linoleate, arachidonate, or linolenate has been investigated. Dietary linoleate and linolenate are incorporated into the depot fat. The ratio of eicosatrienoic acid to eicosatetraenoic acid, derived from the analysis of depot fat, decreases with increasing amounts of a...

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America which requires prolonged treatment with highly toxic antifungals. Baccharis dracunculifolia is a medicinal plant in Brazil that is a candidate in the search for new drugs. Fractions of the hexanic extracts were obtained using chromatographic procedures and assessed using an antifungal assay with Paracoccidioides brasiliensi...

Diacylgalactosylglycerol synthesis was a prerequisite for the incorporation of [1-14C]-acetate into linoleate and alpha-linolenate of isolated spinach (Spinacia oleracea) chloroplasts. Oleate at position 1 of diacylgalactosylglycerol was desaturated to linoleate and alpha-linolenate both in the light and in the dark. Some desaturation of palmitate was also observed after prolonged incubations.

Within EN 14214, method EN 14103 specifies the fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and linolenic acid methyl ester content (Figure 1), which is used to profile the vegetable or animal oil feedstock used in biodiesel production. EN 14103 calls for calibration of all FAME components by relative response to a single compound, methyl heptadecanoate. This requires the measurement of accurate weights for ...

In pilot-plant tests, the linolenate content of soybean oil was reduced to less than 1% without increasing the saturates, by hydrogenation to an IV of about 115 with an active copper-chromite catalyst. The linolenate-linoleate selectivity ratio (KLe/KLo ) was from 9 to 12. Several commercial copper-chromite catalysts were used in hydrogenation tests. The activities of four of five commercial ca...
