Compartmentalized co-localization of enzymes and their substrates represents an attractive approach for multi-enzymatic synthesis in engineered cells and biocatalysis. Sequestration of enzymes and substrates would greatly increase reaction efficiency while also protecting engineered host cells from potentially toxic reaction intermediates. Several bacteria form protein-based polyhedral microcom...
Nanoindentation method has been used to explore, at the nanoscale, the mechanical properties of four different representative types of conch shells belonging to the two biggest classes of molluscs, Gastropoda and Bivalvia, in order to compare nanohardness and Young's modulus with respect to the microstructural anisotropic architectures. For the experimental tests a Nano Indenter XP (MTS Nano In...
Dynamic switching of plasmonic monolayers built of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) is achieved using nano-coatings of poly(isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM). The distance between AuNPs can be dynamically tuned through the repeatable expansion and contraction of the PNIPAM shells at different temperatures, which results in rapid switching of the optical properties of the AuNP monolayer.
Monodisperse multifunctional MnFe2O4/dye/silica core/shell nanoparticles have been designed and developed. The magnetic cores act as nano-heaters in biological systems under RF field excitation and the encapsulated dyes work as local temperature probes. The silica shells enable the water-solubility and biocompatibility of the NPs and protect the encapsulated fluorophores from photobleaching.
The formation of novel structures by the passage of an electric current through graphite is described. These structures apparently consist of hollow three-dimensional graphitic shells bounded by curved and faceted planes, typically made up of two graphene layers. The curved structures were frequently decorated with nano-scale carbon particles, or short nanotubes. In some cases, nanotubes were f...
Free vibration of a simply-supported magneto-electro-elastic doubly-curved nano-shell is studied based on the first-order shear deformation theory in the presence of the rotary inertia effect. To model the electric and magnetic behaviors of the nano-shell, Gauss’s laws for electrostatics and magneto statics are used. By using Navier’s method, the partial differential equations of motion are red...
The preparation of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) assemblies was conducted by the synthesis and dipolar assembly of ferromagnetic core-shell nanoparticles composed of AuNP cores and cobalt NP shells. Dissolution of metallic Co phases with mineral acids afforded self-assembled AuNP chains and bracelets.
Nanotechnology can be used to produce slow-release fertilizers. Zeolite and crab shells are materials that as fertilizer encapsulation. This study aimed compare the effects of nano zeolite for encapsulation nitrogen- potassium fertilizers tested on Entisols Inceptisols soil growth yield shallots. The research method a completely randomized design with three factors. factors were type (Entisol I...
We consider two-dimensional three-component photonic crystals wherein one component is modeled as a drude-dispersive metal. It is found that the dispersion relation of light in this environment depends critically on the configuration of the metallic and dielectric components. In particular, for the case of an incident electromagnetic wave with electric field vector parallel to the axis of the c...
