Reported here is, for the first time, an important study of solvent effect on structural diversity in inorganic-organic mercury(II) complexes. As a result, the first supramolecular isomer in mercury(II) complexes is obtained. Importantly, a previously unobserved in situ generation of both inorganic (Cl(-)) and organic ([CH(3)-L1-CH(3)](2+)) ions was also observed.
Electrochemical processes in the mercury–solution interphase were probed by in situ spectroelectrochemical microRaman spectroscopy. This is the Ðrst report of the in situ characterization of electrochemical processes for a pure mercury electrode by Raman spectroscopy. Mercury was oxidized in 0.1 M solution, in the presence and KClO 4 absence of pyridine. Raman spectra, at several applied potent...
Thermal effect of photolysis in 203Hg, 35S and 131I labeled mercury (II) iodide thiocyanate powders.
203Hg, 35S or 131I labeled mercury (II) iodide thiocyanate (HgISCN) powders were prepared, respectively. When the powders were exposed to sunlight, some parts of the crystals of the powders were decomposed and the decomposed atoms diffused toward crystal surface. This diffusion velocity was accelerated by thermal treatment of the darkened powders. The velocity is larger in order of 35S, 203Hg, ...
background: the objective of this work was developing a simple and stable time-based on-line setup for assessing the potential of mercury (hg) vapor adsorption of the commercial sorbents used in air sampling and control operation followed by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (cvaas). methods: a special designed separation chamber was used where reduction of the injected hg (ii) solution...
Methyl mercury has previously been shown to inhibit DNA and RNA synthesis in intact HeLa cells (Gruenwedel, D. W., and Cruikshank, M. K. (1979) Biochem. Pharmacol. 28, 651-655). Its effect on nucleic acid synthesis in vitro in isolated nuclei has now been investigated. DNA synthesis in nuclei was inhibited by methyl mercury; 50% inhibition was obtained with a concentration of 8 microM, compared...
Mercury detection in water has attracted a lot of research interest due to its highly toxic nature and adverse environmental impact. In particular, the recent discovery of specific binding of Hg(II) to thymine-rich (T-rich) DNA resulting in T-Hg(II)-T base pairs has led to the development of a number of sensors with different signaling mechanisms. However, the majority of such sensors were non-...
The presence of heavy metals released from industrial activities into water streams is an ever-growing challenge to ensuring a safe and clean aquatic environment. Detection and determination of the levels of these heavy metals in wastewater is an important step before any measures can be taken. In this study we report on a fluorescent sensing probe based on a naphthyl azo dye modified dibenzo-1...
We developed a method for the simultaneous determination of monomethyl mercury (MMHg), inorganic mercury [Hg(II)], and total mercury (THg) in biological materials. A variety of biological materials can be digested in methanolic KOH solution. The MMHg and Hg(II) present are converted to volatile ethyl derivatives, methylethyl mercury and diethyl mercury, by an aqueous-phase ethylation reaction w...
