Treatment of medulloblastoma in children fails in approximately 30% of patients, and is often accompanied by severe late sequelae. Therefore, more effective drugs are needed that spare normal tissue and diminish long-term side effects. Since radiotherapy plays a pivotal role in the treatment of medulloblastoma, we set out to identify novel drugs that could potentiate the effect of ionizing radi...

INTRODUCTION The high success rate in the management medulloblastoma achieved in the western world is not exactly mirrored in developing countries including India. Socio-demographic differences, health-care disparity, and lack in uniformity of care with resultant widespread variations in the clinical practice are some of the reasons that may partly explain this difference in outcomes. Patients ...

Medulloblastoma is the most common form of childhood brain tumor, and management has evolved over the past two decades. Chemotherapy is now an integral part of the treatment of the majority, if not all, patients with this disease. Medulloblastoma is a chemosensitive tumor, and recurrent disease will often respond to a variety of different chemotherapeutic agents. The use of higher-dose chemothe...

An extremely rare case of a right cerebellopontine angle medulloblastoma in a five year old Malay girl which had eroded into the petrous bone and extended into the temporal fossa is reported. Combined subtemporal and retromastoid approach to achieve gross total surgical resection was achieved followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

We describe functional imaging findings using MRI, 1H-Magnetic resonance spectroscopy and positron emission tomography in a case of radiation-induced medulloblastoma following radiotherapy for pineal gland tumor. MRS showed a prominent choline peak; FDG, 11C-Met and 11C-Choline PET showed a minimal glucose, increased methionine and choline uptake.

AIM OF THE STUDY Helical tomotherapy is one of the methods of radiotherapy. This method enables treatment implementation for a wide spectrum of clinical cases. The vast array of therapeutic uses of helical tomotherapy results directly from the method of dose delivery, which is significantly different from the classic method developed for conventional linear accelerators. The paper discusses the...

Abstract BACKGROUND Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor in children 0-19 years of age and current treatment requires surgical resection, followed by high dose chemotherapy radiotherapy. Therapy carries morbidity, with late effects including neurocognitive decline, endocrine dysfunction, subsequent malignancies. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy presents potenti...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of proton beam therapy with cochlear dose reduction compared with conventional X-ray radiotherapy for medulloblastoma in childhood. METHODS We developed a Markov model to describe health states of 6-year-old children with medulloblastoma after treatment with proton or X-ray radiotherapy. The risks of hearing loss were calc...

BACKGROUND The development of an intracranial aneurysm after radiotherapy is rare but secondary effect of cranial irradiation in a primary disease treatment. CASE DESCRIPTION The patient was a 17-year-old male adolescent who was diagnosed as having a posterior fossa medulloblastoma when he was 8 years old. He had undergone tumor resection with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. A distal posterior...
