Magellanic tanaidacean faunas have been mainly studied in the Magellan Strait and Beagle Channel, the latter restricted to bottoms deeper than 40m. As a result, the shallow rocky bottoms of the Magellanic fjords remain largely under-studied, and their tanaidacean diversity is poorly known. In this study, tanaidacean species sampled from shallow rocky bottoms of Chilean fjords are investigated, ...

Environ. Entomo!. 26(5): 1149-1154 (1997) ABSTRACT Pselldacteon phorids that parasitize the red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta Buren, inSouthAmericaare not present in the introduced range ofthispest speciesin the United States. Sequential host specificity tests were conducted with 4 South American Pselldacteon species, P. litoralis Borgmeier, P. wasmanni (Schmitz), P. triCllspis Borgmeie...

Microalgal-bacterial interactions are commonly found in marine environments and are well known in diatom cultures maintained in laboratory. These interactions also exert strong effects on bacterial and algal diversity in the oceans. Small green eukaryote algae of the class Mamiellophyceae (Chlorophyta) are ubiquitous and some species, such as Ostreococcus spp., are particularly important in Med...

Marinobacter hydrocarbonoclasticus DSM 8798 has been reported to synthesize isoprenoid wax ester storage compounds when grown on phytol as the sole carbon source under limiting nitrogen and/or phosphorous conditions. We hypothesized that isoprenoid wax ester synthesis involves (i) activation of an isoprenoid fatty acid by a coenzyme A (CoA) synthetase and (ii) ester bond formation between an is...

We report Metagenome from the saline desert soil sample of Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat State, India. Metagenome consisted of 633,760 sequences with size 141,307,202 bp and 56% G + C content. Metagenome sequence data are available at EBI under EBI Metagenomics database with accession no. ERP005612. Community metagenomics revealed total 1802 species belonged to 43 different phyla with dominatin...

One strain of bacteria, designated NCE312, was isolated from a naphthalene-digesting chemostat culture that was inoculated with creosote-contaminated marine sediment. The strain was isolated based on its ability to grow using naphthalene as a sole carbon source. In addition, the strain degraded 2-methylnaphthalene and 1-methylnaphthalene. Analysis of a 16S rRNA gene sequence from NCE312 placed ...

A seawater bacterium, designated IMCC3101(T), was isolated from Antarctic coastal seawater. The strain was Gram-negative, chemoheterotrophic, obligately aerobic, pigmented dark yellow (flexirubin-type pigments) and devoid of gliding and flagellar motility. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons, the most closely related species was Ulvibacter litoralis (96.6 %). Phylogenetic trees g...

Libraries of 16S rRNA genes cloned from methanogenic oil degrading microcosms amended with North Sea crude oil and inoculated with estuarine sediment indicated that bacteria from the genera Smithella (Deltaproteobacteria, Syntrophaceace) and Marinobacter sp. (Gammaproteobacteria) were enriched during degradation. Growth yields and doubling times (36 days for both Smithella and Marinobacter) wer...

This paper describes the production of 5,9,13-trimethyltetradeca-4E,8E,12-trienyl-5,9,13-trimethyltetradeca-4E,8E,12-trienoate during the aerobic degradation of squalene by a Marinobacter strain, 2Asq64, isolated from the marine environment. A pathway involving initial cleavage of the C(10)-C(11) or C(14)-C(15) double bonds of the squalene molecule is proposed to explain the formation of this p...

Strains of Sulfitobacter spp., Erythrobacter sp., and Marinobacter sp. were isolated from a polymicrobial culture of the naked (N-type) haptophyte Emiliania huxleyi strain CCMP1516. The genomes encode genes for the production of phytohormones, vitamins, and the consumption of their hosts' metabolic by-products, suggesting symbiotic interactions within this polymicrobial culture.
