Quantization noise levels of two low-sensitive allpass filter structures, namely wave digital circulator filters (WDCF) and lossless digital integrator filters (LDIF), are compared. Allpass filters are of interest for design of lowpass and bandpass lattice filters. The results show, primarily, that second-order LDIFs have lower total quantization noise gains than corresponding WCDFs for any pol...

The fuzzy transform (F -transform for short) is a universal tool for a fuzzy modeling with convincing applications to image processing. The aim of this contribution is to explain the effect of the F transform in image processing. With this purpose, we investigate properties of the Fourier transform over the F -transform components. We prove that the direct F -transform is a low-pass filter. Thi...

One characteristic of infant-directed speech is that it is highly fluent compared with adult-directed speech. However, the speech that infants hear still contains disfluencies. Such disfluencies might potentially cause problems for infants during language development. We first analyzed samples of spontaneous speech in the presence of infants (both adultand infant-directed) and found that under ...

Electrocardiograms (ECGs) are signals that originate from the action of the human heart. The ECG is the key biosignal for aiding the clinical staff in disease diagnosis. The recognition and analysis of the ECG signals is a very important task. This could be difficult, because the size and form of these signals may change eventually and can be noised. ECG noise removal is complicated due to the ...

Abstract: An adaptive time-domain postfiltering technique based on the synthesis LP filter factorisation is proposed. Information is gathered about the relation between the LP filter poles and formants for this factorisation. This technique shapes the main formant differently from the other formants. Pole locations representing the main formant are modified and optimum shaping constants for eac...

A novel operator called the co-occurrence vector to be used for motion characterization is presented. The vector has the advantage of requiring low computation complexity. It allows estimating the relative position, the scale and the rotation of objects in the scene image. This estimation may be useful for obtaining time to impact and relative distance between objects for navigation and collisi...

The goal of this study is to evaluate to what extent listeners are capable of distinguishing between professional speaking styles based only on prosodic cues. The four speaking styles contemplated in the study – TV news, religious, political, and interview speech – were recorded in the context of normal use from Brazilian television and low-pass filtered to remove semantic information. The part...

This paper deals with multiwavelets and the different properties of approximation and smoothness associated with them. In particular, we focus on the important issue of the preservation of discrete-time polynomial signals by multifilterbanks. We introduce and detail the property of balancing for higher degree discrete-time polynomial signals and link it to a very natural factorization of the re...

This paper introduces a hierarchical image merging scheme based on a multiresolution contrast decomposition (the ratio of low-pass pyramid). The composite images produced by this scheme preserve those details from the input images that are most relevant to visual perception. Some applications of the method are indicated.
