Objective(s): Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogenic bacteria causing the infection listeriosis, which possibly affects all people, particularly immunocompromised persons and pregnant women. This microorganism can be found in several processed foods, dairy products, raw milk, meat and fish products, seafoods, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. This review discusses about the epidemiologica...

objective: listeria monocytogenes is a facultative, gram-positive bacterium which is found in soil, water, decaying vegetables, raw milk, and contaminated dairies. listeria monocytogenes causes listeriosis. listeriosis is a zoonosis disease, which transfers from animals to humans by animal feces and contaminated dairies. listeriosis causes the flu like disease or self-limited enteritis, but it ...

Although the disease burden of listeriosis on population level is low, on individual level the impact is high, largely due to severe illness and a high case fatality. Identification of risk factors supports and specifies public health actions needed for prevention. We performed a case–control study to determine host- and food-related risk factors for non-perinatal listeriosis in the Netherlands...

BACKGROUND Listeriosis caused by Listeria monocytogenes has a high case-fatality rate (CFR) of approximately 20% to 30%. An increasing incidence of listeriosis has been reported in many countries recently. We investigated the annual incidence, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of listeriosis at three different hospitals in Korea and evaluated the effects of appropriate empiric antimicrobia...

PURPOSE This study focused on the effect of immuno-compromising conditions on the clinical presentation of severe listerial infection. PATIENTS AND METHODS Nine human listeriosis cases seen from 1991-2002 were reviewed. All adult patients, from whose blood, peritoneal fluid or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) the L. monocytogenes was isolated, were included in this retrospective study. RESULTS Lis...

Listeriosis is a leading cause of hospitalization and death due to foodborne illness in the industrialized world. Animal models have played fundamental roles in elucidating the pathophysiology and immunology of listeriosis, and will almost certainly continue to be integral components of the research on listeriosis. Data derived from animal studies helped for example characterize the importance ...

Listeria monocytogenes is a food-borne bacterium that give rise to the potentially life-threatening disease listeriosis. Listeriosis has been mandatorily notifiable in Norway since 1991. All clinical L. isolates are sent Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) for typing. Since 2005 Multi-Locus Variable number tandem repeats Analysis (MLVA) used typing but was recently replaced by whole gen...

BACKGROUND In developed countries invasive listeriosis is an infection of great concern to public health to due its clinical severity and high fatality rate, despite its low incidence. In Europe, statistically significant increasing trends in listeriosis notification rates from 2005 to 2009 were noted in Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Sweden. MATERIALS AND METHODS The standardize...

In Belgium, the majority of cases of listeriosis are sporadic cases. In this study we present evidence for an episode of listeriosis: a time-linked cluster of cases that occurred in 2006 and 2007, and the identification of identical strains. The episode involved 11 patients, infected with Listeria monocytogenes of serovar 4b. The source of infection was not detected.

BACKGROUND In 2011, a multistate outbreak of listeriosis linked to contaminated cantaloupes raised concerns that many pregnant women might have been exposed to Listeria monocytogenes. Listeriosis during pregnancy can cause fetal death, premature delivery, and neonatal sepsis and meningitis. Little information is available to guide healthcare providers who care for asymptomatic pregnant women wi...
