Photomultipliers are commonly used in commercial PET scanner as devices which convert light produced in scintillator by gamma quanta from positron-electron annihilation into electrical signal. For proper analysis of obtained electrical signal, a photomultiplier gain curve must be known, since gain can be significantly different even between photomultipliers of the same model. In this article we...

Using Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), we report on intensity-dependent broadening in graphene-deposited broad-band antennas. The antenna gain curve includes both the incident frequency and some of the scattered mode frequencies. By comparing antennas with various gaps and types (bow-tie vs. diamond-shape antennas) we make the case that the line broadening did not originate from strain...

We study the limiting behavior of the zeros of the Euler polynomials. When linearly scaled, they approach a definite curve in the complex plane related to the Szegö curve which governs the behavior of the roots of the Taylor polynomials associated to the exponential function. Further, under a conformal transformation, the scaled zeros are uniformly distributed.

The mass and isotope dependence of limiting temperatures for hot nuclei are investigated. The predicted mass dependence of limiting temperatures is in good agreement with data derived from the caloric curve data. The predicted isotope distribution of limiting temperatures appears to be a parabolic shape and its centroid is not located at the isotope on the β-stability line(T=0) but at neutron-r...

Several new CMOS very high DC-gain amplifiers that use internal positive-feedback techniques are presented. These amplifiers have a controllable gain and don't require perfect matching of transistors to achieve the high DC gain. An implementation of a sample and hold circuit constructed using one of the proposed amplifiers is described. Sin~ulation results predict a DC gain larger than lOOdB is...

It is known that neither the Alamouti nor the V-BLAST scheme achieves the Zheng–Tse diversity–multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. With respect to the DMT curve, the Alamouti scheme achieves the point corresponding to maximum diversity gain only, whereas V-BLAST meets only the point corresponding to maximum multiplexing gain. It is also known that D-...

BACKGROUND Minimal access surgery for gastrointestinal cancer has short-term benefits but is associated with a proficiency-gain curve. The aim of this study was to define national proficiency-gain curves for minimal access colorectal and oesophagogastric surgery, and to determine the impact on clinical outcomes. METHODS All adult patients undergoing minimal access oesophageal, colonic and rec...

OBJECTIVE To generate a new body mass index curve of reference values and ranges for body mass index and weight gain during pregnancy and to compare the new curve and weight gain ranges with the currently used references. METHODS A prospective observational study was conducted with a total of 5,656 weight and body mass index measurements in 641 women with single pregnancy who attended their f...

We model the effects of excitation and inhibition on the gain of cortical neurons. Previous theoretical work has concluded that excitation or inhibition alone will not cause a multiplicative gain change in the curve of firing rate versus input current. However, such gain changes in vivo are measured in the curve of firing rate versus stimulus parameter. We find that when this curve is considere...
