Microbial transformation of the tetrazolinone herbicide F5231 was accomplished with the filamentous fungus Absidia pseudocylindrospora Hesseltine et Ellis (ATCC 24169). The fungus converted the herbicide to six metabolites which were identified spectrally by mass, infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

such a galactosyl transfer reaction as well as the decomposition of raffinose in beet sugar production, they may also produce galactooligosaccharides. Mitutomi and OhtakaraX) reported the isolation and identification of six main oligosaccharides produced from raffinose by the action of the a-galactosidase from Pycnoporus cinnabarinus. In our preliminary experiments, however, the a-galactosidase...

The in vitro activity of isavuconazole against Mucorales isolates measured by EUCAST E.Def 9.2 and CLSI M38-A2 methodologies was investigated in comparison with those of amphotericin B, posaconazole, and voriconazole. Seventy-two isolates were included: 12 of Lichtheimia corymbifera, 5 of Lichtheimia ramosa, 5 of group I and 9 of group II of Mucor circinelloides, 9 of Rhizomucor pusillus, 26 of...

We report the annotated draft genome sequence of Lichtheimia ramosa (JMRC FSU:6197). It has been reported to be a causative organism of mucormycosis, a rare but rapidly progressive infection in immunocompromised humans. The functionally annotated genomic sequence consists of 74 scaffolds with a total number of 11,510 genes.

Mucorales were isolated from maize flour, corn meal and cooked cornflakes using surface and depth plate methods. Rhizopus oryzae, Circinella muscae, Mucor subtilissimus, Mucor hiemalis f. hiemalis, Syncephalastrum racemosum, Rhizopus microsporus var. chinensis and Absidia cylindrospora showed protease activity.

Mucormycosis, a fatal opportunistic infection in immunocompromised hosts, is caused by fungi belonging to the order Mucorales. Early diagnosis based on exact identification and multidisciplinary treatments is critical. However, identification of Mucorales fungi is difficult and often delayed, resulting in poor prognosis. This study aimed to compare the results of phenotypic and molecular identi...

Fungi belonging to class Zygomycetes become pathogenic in certain predisposing conditions; principally diabetes mellitus, immunosuppression, trauma or burns. We report a case of a 31-year-old man with acute promyelocytic leukemia who developed infection of the sino-oral cavity, due to Absidia corymbifera during a neutropenic phase following induction chemotherapy. A provisional diagnosis of zyg...
